I want to be a DJ some bad !
Hello my name is kevin i live in west aus, Kalgoorlie actually !. Im 18 and dont know what to do with my life, job wise that is. i dont know what i want to do and really am not interested in much, ive worked as a carpenter, sparky, plumber. Ive looked for hours over the internet looking at a job i want to do but still nothing. My dad is pissed and he wants me to get a job asap at the latest feb 2012!, but enough about that because i dont have job i have all this free time so i bought a Hercules MP3 E2 DJ controller for $120 on amazon and started mixing some music, like drum n bass, house ,progressive, top 40. songs like that im using now like Paradise (fedde le grand remix, avicii V Pitbull- hotel levels, strobe- deadmau5, calling- sebastian ingrosso, we're all no one- NERVO (remix), yer so i stick to around the 120-130bpm range of music

i get the whole concept of it but i want to get better i thing i pretty good for what i have atm. I am transitioning each song pretty good (eg have the second songs bass off the use the cross fader and fade the song in the turn the other songs bass off the turn the new one on , i loop the song to bring the new one in and with effects like the beatgrid, double, esc. (i might just upload a video of me djing then people can see what i can do). So i want to buy the Tractor Kontrol S4 DJ controller which is about $1000 to take my djing to another level by using samples, more effects, esc

Since i love music and dj mostly everyday i want to make a career out of it or just a second job. when you do your first gig on a saturday night is that all they do the whole week?, Do they dj 4 days a week or more ? how much money would you make from 1 gig (just at some club) ? how long would you generally dj for on the night ?

If possible can someone teach me, or something

im going to upload my first mix onto soundcloud or youtube and up make a thread for it.
if anyone can help that would be appreciated

Let me be the voice of reason....

You are not going to be able to quit your day job playing weekend gigs in kalgoorlie.... (or pretty much anywhere in Australia).

Actually it's probably more feasible than Sydney or Melb where every 2nd guy is a dj. However, you'll prob have a lot of aus rock requests....

Don't look at djing as your ticket to freedom and the ultimate job

Get a trade or a steady line of work sorted for yourself and have djing as a hobby at first.

Then as you get better and build more confidence then start doing parties and gigs etc.

If you are good at it and it takes off for you then congratulations

If it doesn't work out then you still have you trade or profession to fall back on.

Nearly every dj in Australia has another line of work they do on a daily basis and djing is
just another thing on the side for them, that they are passionate about.

Maybe you need to look at other lines of work, if you love music what about working in a music store
or maybe a place that sells dj eqipment or instruments etc

being a dj is a cool job man!! go for it.. but i think you need some voice lessons in order to modulate your voice..
