Melodic emotional music influenced by prog
This thread is to focus on some of my favourite music, stuff that is similar to prog and which prog lovers might love, but that is not necessarily a classic fit into that category.
Melodic electronica and other such different tracks are the focus of this thread. Things like Henry Saiz Balance had elements of related but not classic prog music.
Record labels like Loki, Back Home, Klangwelt, Maripoza are all examples of the music this thread is to celebrate.
Artists such as Lanny May, Ryan Davis (together Davis & May), Applescal, Cora Novoa, Fairmont, Mattheis, Magic Panda, Ricardo Tobar, Spada,Van Hai etc, are some of the more obvious artists to fit this style. Obviously some of it will be progressive but it will fit with this melodic and emotional style. Hopefully you get what I mean!

I will post up some of the obvious tracks to give you an idea of the style I mean:
Lanny May

Ricardo Tobar

Mattheis

Ryan Davis

Applescal

Henry Saiz & Spada

I don't really use the word emotional to describe music, but melodic & beautiful usually makes me think of pantha du prince and kollektiv turmstrasse.

PdP - Bohemian Forest
PdP - Asha
PdP - Es Schneit
KT - Kontakt
KT - Schwindelig

I'd suggest heading over to beatport (or wherever else) and killing an hour going through their catalogues. Well worth it.

Edit - I'd also check out vince watson. He's more on the house/techno side of things, but he writes some great melodic music.

VW - Love In F Minor (Intro Mix)

Yeh I know Vince Watson, he's kind of outside the scope of this thread though, not quite what I wished to discuss. I was more aiming to share the many many songs of this style that I have found with other people who will like/appreciate it! And for them to share back to me the gems they've found. Looking for some more unknown stuff that fits with the description I put at the top.
Lay it on me with some of the least known or most emotional, beautiful, weird, experimental shit you can find and I think we'll all gain more.
Do you guys actually like the style of tracks I've put up or am I just on my own here?

Here are some more, I'll start posting descriptions of the songs:
Coma- Playground Altona
This track has a kind of beautiful hopeful melancholia to it, the voices of children contrast to the sad pads and the beautiful melody sprinkled on top feels like the drops of time as childhood recedes. Amazing track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjDQi9vEvLU

Dual Shaman- The White Rose
Glitchy melodies weave their way together and sound almost like voices as real voices join them from time to time, it drones on toward simply beautiful chords that give the tracks name its meaning. As the glitches recede the melody does its own thing, allowing you to relax. Trust me, give it a whirl

Ryan Davis- Area 12
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzUPXe_ub68
He provided his own description on soundcloud:
"The A12 motorway was wrapped in complete darkness. The lights of the windmills were blinking in the rhythm of the rotor blades passing by. They appeared just before sunrise. No one had ever seen this kind of creature ever before: red flashing, and bright shining alien butterflies attracted by the windmills. People stopped, and got out of their cars to watch this spectacle. The flying creatures were constantly creating new, kaleidoscope-like formations, and slowly, and very softly at first, they started singing. And although nobody really understood their behaviour, everybody understood their wistful and hopeful song."

Groj- Anges D'Ekhydhia - Cora Novoa Remix
This beautifully tragic remix is just incredible. If you love a great vocal track with meaning and emotion, this is your one. What more can I say other than letting it do the talking

Nice, good to see some discussion taking off. I noticed you put a Rone Remix in your mix, he slots perfectly into the style of the thread.
Rone- So So So
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm-Lfwt3gLM
This track is deep but also makes me happy and excitable at some points, great melodies with tinges of sadness are ever-present and the melodies great. Just the right amount of complexity and depth imo.

If you liked that then check out these:
Rone- Planet Zoo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua1YRJJj2fI

Booiamrudolf- Lilo Love (sorry no youtube for this so listen on his soundcloud)
http://soundcloud.com/booiamrudolf/b...dolf-lilo-love

and I might add this: The best Max Cooper song yet and one of the best of the year for me, no doubt:
Epic an fits the thread title to a tee

Yeh extrawelt is another GREAT artist and thanks for posting that song, I actually missed that release somehow so you made my day with that!!!
Always loved Extrawelt- Unter Tage (Beatport Mix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw08jPAV__w

Here's some stuff that is kind of reminiscent of Extrawelt whilst on the melodic techno theme:
Lanny May- Soft Light Turns On
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw0192Yivn0

Lanny May- Mittelmeer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J5Fa...feature=relmfu
both a bit dark and brooding but with melody and great percussion as usual

And finally, for those who might like to chill out and cry yourself to sleep with the sheer beauty of the music:
contemporary classical
Max Richter- On The Nature of Daylight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rluU6BGpKw

Max Richter- Haunted Ocean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOPe_B-ZIHE

Word of warning, this is absolutely amazing. So beautiful and sad, it stands up to Max Richter. (the whole EP is amazing, HIGHLY recommended for chilled out stuff)
Ilya Malyuev- Little Sad Smile

Def gonna keep an eye on this thread. I buy heaps of stuff from a lot of the guys listed. It's prob the sound I like playing the most. Kind of a deep melodic techno feel but the prog crowd can still get into it. Any Melb folk head down to Prognosis if you get a chance cos we push a bit of it there.

Great to hear Simon! I might have to do just that.

Who likes FREE music?

Applescal has been at it again, here is a free download of his remix of Pien Faith- I Have Done Nothing, for those who like a vocal track. Highly recommend, also if you're slightly out of the loop he has other free downloads, especially his remix of the theme from Requiem for a dream, wicked track.

10dens make some seriously awesome beautiful music, and this one is also for free download, to help you get amongst their style, check it out:

And Van Hai's exile project also has free music, purchasing the music is optional and you can read about their cause at the tracks links.

http://soundcloud.com/vanhai/exile-p...-david-durango

http://soundcloud.com/vanhai/hope
this is simply amazing, beautiful vocals from Van Hai, hang drum to open the track, been a favourite for a while

http://soundcloud.com/vanhai/citylights-exile
another great vocal track, by ripperton and van hai.

Applescal has released a free EP on rtfkt which can be downloaded here:

Really liking the vibe on El Diablo
Mr Cold has some pretty cool ambiances and feelings as well. Well worth checking them out.

Any one else had any finds/track suggestions?

p.s. If you haven't already, do yourself a favour and listen to applescals album 'a mishmash of changing moods'

Thanks for the input !! Good to see, keep it coming

The only one I know of those tracks is the Ewan Pearson remix of Cortney Tidwell and it's brilliant, love how weird/unqiue her vocals are but it works so well!
I'll let you know how I find the rest :-)

Ok, that is absolutely SPOT ON!
This is the kind of stuff the thread is about. Beautiful, brilliant music that is not actually progressive house or progressive techno (or if it is, the experimental unique kind)

Great stuff, never heard this track or the artist. Keep em coming legend.

Radio Slave remix bored me, not my cup of tea and didn't feel it suited this thread but each to their own :-)

Carl Craig- A Wonderful Life very beautiful, nice addition !
Pole Folder- Dimension Missing This is a great track, really straddles that line between progressive and something else well, all round great music to be had there. Hadn't listened to anything by him in a while, I'll have to get back on board it would seem.
Workbench- Serpents .... nice and trippy, bingo, just what the thread needed !!!! Reminds me a tiny little bit of shpongle, check them out if you haven't already
Reason Or Romanza - Radiance Trigger (Recue Remix) -sounds like it's straight out of a Zabs set, great!

All in all a very good post! Check out the tracks here already, by the sounds of things you'de like a lot of them

Ryan Davis is so long overdue it isn't even funny, should have been here about 2 years ago, he continually breaks new ground too. Glad to see it's in the pipeline!!!

IMO Lanny May is just as good, and would love to see him here as well.

Well fingers crossed Ryan Davis goes ahead, and i'll definately have first dibs on a sydney show.

I caught up with the head guys from Manual Music & Cinematic last august, they release a lot of Lanny's stuff.....another big artist on their roster is Francesco Pico who's latest EP is brilliant

^^ both great labels, I like a few tracks off the Pico album from what I heard, yet to give it a proper listen though.

Pepe is half of the artist duo Margot, he has done a pretty experimental album called "Umori"
this is a great track off it...
