If I don't finish my work too late tonight I might give the first chapter a run through. Otherwise I don't know when I'll have time to play it. Fkn thesis is already killing me and it's not due till October

So I decided fuck it and played Episode 1. Man, this shit is epic.

Love the atmosphere, the mystery, the darkness. The controls are a bit weird (being over-the-shoulder from the right when any over-the-shoulder game I've ever played is from the left takes some getting used to), and there are a few graphical glitches (most likely because of my crappy computer, not the game itself), but they are minor things compared to how engaging the story already is.

I'm playing on Xbox, and if you click the right thumbstick, it switches the perspective to the other side. Useful for when Alan obstructs view of things.

...

I played a bit of the sequel last night. I'm finding it harder to aim my weapon compared to the original.

In the original it was also easier to weaken the enemies with the torch. You usually didn't have to focus the beam. Just have it pointed in their direction. But now you do have to focus.

Got this running on my back up computer and just finished Chapter 2. Love it so far. Not too many jump scares which is good because it makes them so much worse when they actually happen.

The takens' voices are so fucking freaky, I love it

gameplay is a little dull. shoot through this bit. little cutscene, rinse, repeat
it's this that's causing me not to hurry back to playing it. I also have ME3 to get through

I loved it. The forest looks boss on PC

Spoiler:
The rock concert part is lame and ruins that chapter imo

It's not going to win any awards for "most ingenious gameplay", but the atmosphere, story, characters and "omg I think I just shat my pants factor" are more than enough to keep me interested in it.

Finally finished this and the two additional episodes. Absolutely loved it. It looks beautiful (even on my shitty laptop), is freaky as shit (the Taken voices will never cease to give me chills; not to mention the poltergeists), the sound adds so much to the atmosphere, and the story is engaging and twists and turns like a mofo.

I really hope they announce a sequel to this story arc (American Nightmare is a separate, stand-alone story from my understanding)

Thanks for reminding me to finish the DLC Wowk. The DLC is a perfect addition to a great game. American Nightmare should be on sale soon from steam and I can't wait to play it.

I've heard this is awesome and that if I loved the suspense of Heavy Rain, I would love this. I'll be honest though, I'm too fucking scared to play this

It was an xbox 360 exclusive that was only recently ported to PC with no PS3 release.

It depends what scares you really.

If you're the kind of person who gets really worked up by jump scares, then this isn't really going to bother you much - there are some jump scares, but not lots. If you want jump scares, I'd sooner recommend Dead Space, SCP: Containment Breach, Nightmare House 1/2 (HL mods), Cry of Fear (HL mod), or Metro 2033.

If psychologically twisted shit/creepy atmosphere/supernatural stuff is what makes your skin crawl, then expect to be tense the whole way through, and not much comes close to Alan Wake when it comes to just making you feel nervous/creeped out, even when nothing is actually happening

Like Chippie said, I can't recommend it enough - the story is so engaging and the atmosphere is 10/10.

I'm a massive survival/psychological horror enthusiast (for some reason I love having the shit scared out of me and wanting to sleep with the lights on for the next week for some reason) and I'd rate it up there as one of my favourites I've ever played. It's the only game that has ever unnerved me as much as Silent Hill did.
