It was cool for a while, coupled with the stripped back nu disco etc. But it has replaced deep & tech house as the bandwagon jumper of choices genre. Majority of dj's playing it with zero feel for it as when deep & tech house wagons got rolling & this bandwagon wasn't even one that came from a crazy dancefloor response. Most of the time it goes down like a bunch of lead balloons. It's like playing at certain BPM is cool now and people are trying to outdo each other by playing slower & slower, the result being lamer & lamer dancefloors.

It's pretty funny to watch it all happen & I don't think it will last long as the bandwagon of bandwagon jumpers choice. It just doesnt draw people in that well in my opinion.

My preferences hang slightly to the left, when not free-balling around the 'house'.

actually, since "low slung" is referring to the tempo... perhaps it's the sort of house you seen on Today Tonight that tradies haven't finished after 6 years of work

there's a whole bunch of really good everything out, including country and western

my point was it's not a new bandwagon, and it's a fairly boring bandwagon due to the fact that the vast majority of djs have no idea how to play slower styles of music without sending people to sleep

And when you wake up, you realise you're on heaps of spam lists?

Seriously though, I think that while genres and trends are important in music, only the relevant music stays and normally becomes a bonafide 'genre'.

Now, let's have some fun: post DJ Bios where they claim to be experts in the delivery of these 'genres'.

So basically what you're saying with this entire post is Crosstown Rebels.

Pretty sure the slo mo house thing has been big for quite a few years, at least since I started playing...

Some of that other stuff is fairly garbage though IMO, its like someone got everything that was bad about tech house and applied it to disco.

this thread reminds me of a convo i had about bare essentials.
Djs playing way to slow ...the next dj comes on drop's it down another 15 bpm to beyond slow .
Hey obviously people like it tho , bare essentials seems to have a rocking party happening etc
Tho yeah i reckon Bandwagon is such a lame term when it comes to music , music is for fun , who cares if people jump on the D-floor and get down to something new and shout 'i love this shit etc etc" , if enjoying & discovering music means your on a bandwagon fuck i must be on at least 25 of them
if your a young music enthusiast going out getting down to this.. rather than "brostep " or "hardtrance".. your doing it the right thing hahaha.
tho thread seems to be aimed directly at "DJ"s"" from first post .

yeah same, im really digging this stuff at the moment!

though i agree it could easily bring a dancefloor to a stand still if it starts going below 118bpm, but i find MJC and maceo's stuff is 123npm anyway which is not slow at all

tbh, this genre (like any genre) can get up its own arse after a while, when everyman and his dog becomes a wanna be maceo plex, but it's like anything that becomes 'the next big thing'. theres is good stuff and bad stuff in any type of music
But, personally if house music is becoming dominated with this slower sound, then im ok with it. (some of it)
id much rather listen to this than cheesy funky house
everything in moderation though

Just read that article in it's entirety. Well described from the author, worth a read from others viewing this thread..

Article seems as though it was written by a jaded old clubber who is confused by new trends and looking for things to blame, just look at the paragraph which basically says 'zomg everything was better in my day when we had good MDMA!. The song that is referenced at the beginningis quite new so I doubt it has caused this 'k-house explosion', it is also funky and I fail to understand how you couldn't dance to it. I also like how the article equates wearing sunglasses indoors to K, lol this has been happening for as long as I remember and no doubt before. All styles of dance music seem to be getting slower across the board. The main reason people may be taking K is because of availability of other drugs and the reason people aren'y dancing as much is because these were the same kids who are used to head nodding to indie bands, but that isn't popular anymore. I remember there being panic about K destroying the club scene when I lived in the UK 6 years ago so hardly new.
Not too sure what my point is

I'm a fan of the slower stuff that's coming out in house at the moment - around 118bpm. There are a few below that but it seems to sit 118-126ish. There's some stuff around too that has more of a UK Garage influence - a bit more stripped back and tribal from the Maceo deep house sound.

As a personal preference I'm really enjoying the slower stuff as a contrast. And it's not just house, there's some slower indie techno sounds around too.

I read it quite the opposite, as coming from a young clubber idealising the memories and transcripts of a bygone era.

This is becoming like a NOTHING thread. Slow Mo/Blow More house, is just a hot by-line to sell beats and parties as I mentioned before. I don't think Theo Parrish or Fred P, consider their tunes to fall into that category.
