New York and Hawaii
Flights booked for July 27th arrival into Honolulu, arriving 7:30am and going to stay that night there to check out Pearl Harbour and whatever else we can before flying to NYC the following evening for 8 nights.

Return back to Hawaii after that for 5 nights of chilling, probably Maui as sounds to be the best.

So, who's been to either area? Any recommendations on accom which was great or to avoid?

NYC accom all looks pretty steap, probably go for the serviced apartment jobbies rather than the hotels as they're pretty fucking pricey and not really planning on spending fuck all time at our digs as there's so much to do.

One night in Honolulu will probably be as central as possible so as to not fuck around too much, when back, intention is to relax as much as possible, enjoy the weather, beaches, pool etc, so don't mind spending more on accom there as there will be a fair amount of time chilling out by the pool/at the bar

Mate, I recently booked my holiday for Honolulu for July as well...after extensive research and a couple of friend's recommendations...
I booked into Ashton Waikiki Circle Hotel...best location amongst all the hotels (right at the main beach) in Waikiki and very affordable prices with not bad accommodation facilities...reviews and rating help support this too...

re: NY...if you want cheaper accommodation you would have to look for places to stay around central park (upper side of town)...even though you pay so much for prime location, it saves you time, public transport and taxi fares etc...I'm guessing your over hostels in dorm rooms? Maybe check hostels that provide you your own room could be a cheap option.

Awesome, thanks!

No ruling out hostels/backpackers at this stage, but would have to be couples private room...found backpackers can be so awesome for meeting people to hang/drink with, which is often hard to do when travelling as a couple

Lots of research to do, not a lot of time to do it!

There are some good crossovers between hostels and proper hotels, in awesome locations, with brilliant staff and facilities.

It's still $300 a night for what looks like an upmarket Backpackers!!

try airbnb.com if you want good value accom. I also stayed at the Roger Williams hotel for a few nights. Excellent location (Madison Av near Midtown) and MUCH less than $300 a night (look on different hotel booking engines for prices).

^ Where'd you get $300 a night from?

$ 199.00 x 2 Nights + $ 179.00 x 6 Nights + $ 189.00 x 1 Night

For double bed pod room when we're there

Which is pretty reasonable from the albeit kinda breif searching I've done so far...fucking expensive place to stay!

Checking out airbnb how!
Scratch that, wil check from home as site don't work on my shitty work connection...interesting concept though!

Advice from a friend was not to stay in midtown as it's souless, just stay where the heart is in tribeca/soho/village and use the subway to get to midtown for when you want to go to the museums and shit

a couple of my mates stayed here http://www.whitehousehotelofny.com when they first came to NY, from all accounts it is pretty crappy but its cheap and if you are only looking to sleep there than it should more than suffice.

Cheers...AirBNB seems pretty decent, can get a one bedroom/studio apartment which is all yours for $150 a night which was around the limit we were setting ourselves...or private rooms in shared houses with the owners/occupiers for half that.

Now, how does one find good info on the party/clubbing scene? Is there a site like this anyone knows off for NYC? Few I've found are pretty limited in their information, same parties which happen every Thur/Fri/Sat are the only post for Jul/August etc

I see there is a Pacha, but not going there unless if just happens to be Tenaglia/Sasha/Digweed etc kind of big name, all the other names on current lineup info are cheese head shitballs like Morillo

Deft more keen on the deep/tech/prog, but soulful/funk stuff is all good, too...so anyone know good places to go...

went to maui for a week in late april for a conference... its pretty awesome... I stayed around Lahaina which is a ridiculously touristy place but quite a bit of fun...

accomodation wise... if you want to go to a hostel, there are two options in Lahiana... All I can say is avoid like the plague the Lahaina last resort... I stayed there for 4 nights and hated every second... here's a list of what was rubbish:
broken bed
bed bugs
broken air con
walls so thin you can hear everyone doing, well everything...

I was staying in a single room as work was paying and I went there, like you, cause I thought it was a better way to meet people, but honestly there was no one there so it was all pointless... I demanded my money back and left after 4 days (would have left earlier but the conference ran so late I could never get other accommodation)
everything is pricey, accomodation wise... look at paying more than 100 a night... especially as its summer hols...

things to do...
snorkling! you can pick up a snorkel set for less than $8 a day and there are buses that goes to the whalers village (its on the beach and has giant hotels around it..,) where you can snorkel off the shore and see awesome fish and motherk**king turtles man! (seriously the turtles are awesome) just dont try to ride them!

there's also rip-lines and bike rides down the volcano... they are all pretty cool but $$

if you can get a car and go around to the pools at the other end of the island... thats cool too, otherwise there is bus tours but they are also $$

its not a great place to shop though, so do that in Hawaii...

If you scuba dive ... malaki is another really good day trip... you have to organise with some tour company though...

speaking of which, you can see guys offering tours at really cheap prices... they are real but the catch is that you have to sit through a 2 or so hour presentation on time - share... its worth it though if you can spend the time...

anything specific just ask...
RIP SGU

Shot, thanks mate! We decided on just staying in Oahu as it's only 6 days at the end of the stresses and frantic pace of New York, it's all about beaches, pools and relaxing for us really...but deft going to do some kind of island tour to see the whole place...but didn't want the hassle of packing up our stuff and changing islands for just a couple of nights, to have to pack up and come back to fly out again :snore:

Went with a middle o' the range resort in Waikiki as we went a nice surrounding/pool for those days we want to just do fark all, was $160 a night, so not too bad and a nice looking place just a block back from the beach

By rip-lines on the volcano, you mean like flying fox runs down the hillsides?!?! If so...awesome, down with that!

http://www.discoverhawaiitours.com/t..._activity.html

Looks alright, has the zip lines and turtles and kayaking etc $139 for full day tour with lunch

And deft going wake boarding, hopefully a couple of times...did that in Bali last time and freaking loved it! And it's only $49 USD for a 1 hour session...completely destroyed me last time as I was pretty unfit, whole body aching and core so sore it hurt to cough...I've been gym'ing it up big time in the last few months specifically so I can get some solid board time in
