Brown moves to Greener pastures
Bob Brown to quit the Senate and Leader of the Greens.

interesting time to quit. Personally I would have liked to see him go a bit longer but it'll be interesting to see where they head with a new leader. It would be a pity to see the party crumble now as they are the only alternative to the far right that is the rest of Australian politics.

interesting time to quit

I'm not surprised. Milne has been taking the lead on many of the issues and it's the best time to give someone else a chance I'd say.

Hopefully by going now he has completely wrongfooted the awful Lee Rhiannon's designs on the leadership, as well.
But we're fools if we sit back and stare at the ground
While the weasels and analysts sing
If we want our place in history, we can't let the frustration
Drive us to fashionable drinking again

Disappointed his resignation speech didnt begin with "My fellow Earthlings".

Anyway maybe now the greens will die and the democrats will once again collect the far left protest vote?

strange time to go out.

I bet he's been smashing the Greens credit card on Loldurgs

I heard Milne speak for an extended period once and thought she went very well.

she has a bit of an annoying voice but listening to the press conference then, it wasn't so bad. You'd have to expect the loss of a figurehead like Brown will hurt the Greens though.

also now two women in control of Australia lololololol

Greens probably know that Labor won't win the next elections, so Bob decides to quit before the European summer and he can immediately travel overseas to get some sun this year.

last couple of years of Australian politics have seen plot-twists and un-imaginable scenarios, e.g.
PM Rudd flicked, election draw, chair-sniffing MP, female jacket fashion faux pas...

bob brown is a dude, I have much time for him. I feel he was always a reasonable counterpoint to the ridiculous oppositionalism and popularism of lab/lib.

Good luck to the Greens recovering from this. Bob Brown had a certain charisma to him that carried the Greens all these years.

vs Sarah Hanson-Young and Lee Rhiannon, she's alright.

Scott Ludlam looks the most like a leader, though.

True, but Bob gave people so many reasons to hate on him, and that boosted their appeal as the outsiders.

Can see the rest inspiring annoyance at most.

I listened to what Bob Brown had to say, even if I didn't always agree. With the others, I tend to just tune out.

Yeah, agreed on Ludlam. Seems measured in his reactions, somewhat like Brown.

I don't always agree with Brown but I have a level of respect for him that I just don't have for most of the vapid powerfuckers in federal parliament. He wasn't a political puritan by any means but I think he leaves with his integrity in-tact which is more than the large majority of the current mob will.

Having a new voice may actually spruik some interest from those fcukwits who dismissed Brown for being gay/ Taswegian/ remotely passionate and a man of his convictions.

Doubt it, they'll just find an equally stupid reason to hate on the replacement. (ala Gillard copping it for being a woman/bogan/ranga/childless)

i think he missed a few opportunities recently by playing hardball. he had a profile and seemed reasonable to me in most respects. a loss for the greens.

dont have much time for that ugly young senator, what a dud.

he'd risk being marginalised as a crackpot if he was too hardline. There was enough mud thrown at the fact that the greens had an alliance with the ALP, let along if he started to beat his chest.
