Audio Interface Choice
This is a poll for the choice of my first audio interface!
Ive narrowed it down to 3 final choices, but if any one has another solution, feel free to share it!
Fast Track Ultra- http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...rackUltra.html
M-Audio 610- http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProFire610.html
Focusrite 8i6- http://www.focusrite.com/products/au.../scarlett_8i6/
Any past problems or anything that made you love the interface would be appreciated
Thanks

I couldn't compare the three because I've only owned an Alesis i/o2 and recently got the Focusrite 8i, but I can vouch for the stability of the Scarlett and the excellent preamps onboard. I haven't really used the Mix Control software as of yet but so far it's been great with MIDI as well as audio.

Has anyone had any problems with any of these interfaces?
Any other options?
Within a 330 price range- I can get any of the interfaces for that price

I used to have the M-Audio FW410 (precursor to 610?) and for a while I had problems with it occasionally dropping out unexpectedly. This was fixed with a new FW cable and firmware update though. Still, not overly confident with M-Audio stuff anymore however I have no experience with Focusrite.

I had a NI Audio Kontrol and it was rock solid but unfortunately I needed a few more inputs so I searched for a new audio card. Ended up buying the Focusrite 8i6 and at the start it was such a headache to get going. The sound kept clicking & popping even with the buffer settings set at reasonable levels. This happened for a few days until I found Focusrite's beta drivers page, Installed the beta drivers & the clicks & pops disappeared which made me a happy chappy.

Overall after the initial "I wanna throw this thing at a brick wall" I'm pretty happy with it now that it's up and running like it's supposed to. Good value for $$ imo.

I have Motu Ultralite mk3 now. More inputs. But I also upgraded at same time as new computer so prob would have stayed with the 410 if I wasn't doing bulk upgrade. Wasn't really anything wrong with it after sorting out the problem, similar to Strech's story.

Yeh I was lining up to buy one of these second hand for 120, but then I just thought how important the interface is and that I want warranty etc,
I might as well by a better interface now with more I/O then upgrading constantly later!

I don't like m-audio, and i haven't used that particular model of the focus rite, but everyone i know who has one doesn't have many complaints and the sound quality is ace.

Had the 8i6 for 3 months now and couldn't be happier with it. Just make sure you keep on top of the driver updates and you'll have no problems

Can't believe RME hasn't been mentioned!

I use an RME Fireface UC (albeit its only weakness is that it isn't bus powered) and it is an awesome audio interface, haven't had one problem since purchasing almost 24 months ago...rock solid, awesome support and a brand you can trust.

^No, nobody that's used M-Audio likes M-Audio... There's a difference.

That said, We've got one of their MIDI keyboards at my work and it works great!

The focusrite is much newer/may have better converters (it may not, just as easily); Converters have made leaps and bounds in the past ten years allowing cheaper products to have better stuff.

I did a (i guess you could call it) downgrade recently to a Motu Mircrobook and I love it (especially as they had a price drop to $199 from $299 when i picked it up). Unless you need multiple inputs its rock solid, sounds brilliant and is bus powered (inc 48v phantom).

Edit - One fault is it doesn't have midi in/out but I do all my midi over usb anyway so its not a issue for me.

I'm in the market for a card around $250, got 2 midi instruments I'd like to connect to it, and multiple outs would be great so I can A/B easily. Will spend more if I can't get anything decent that fits the brief at that price.

I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.

A general DAC can produce application of real-time effects such as filtering or deliberate distortion.?
