Haters gonna hate.

I do the same with my iPhone every year. The eBay sale covers the contract termination fee so why not? Although this time I went on a 12 month contract (but will probably keep my phone and bung a prepaid SIM in)

I trust no rumours about specs until Apple's officially announced them. Last year's big iPad rumours were a retina display iPad and a second iPad released in September. Every blog site swore they were true and neither of them were.

Placed an order for the 64GB Wi-Fi model today - first time tablet purchase.

Was going to get the 3G/4G model, but I can't see myself ever using it.

Can always tether to my iPhone if I take it on the road.

I used to be the biggest Apple hater - I'm sucked into their world now and not looking back.

Timing might be a little out but I've already had a few enquiries, so it's as good a time as any to me.

macrumors.com is a good place, im sure there's others. the retina displays, rear then front casings and mainboards have been in people's hands over the past few weeks. i'm generally wary of rumours, but when people are putting the display under microscopes to check the pixel count and the mainboards look legit, then it's hard to argue with them.

4g is such a dog's breakfast with all those competing spectrums, speeds and such. Wonder how long it'll be before it can be pronounced a 'standard'

Anyone come across any heavy duty-ish/splash proof iPhone cases at all? I go scuba diving regularly and while I'm overprotective of my phone and generally leave it in the van when we go, I know at some point it's probably going to come into contact with some (probably salt) water at some point...

One of these will do the trick too:

Had no problem using the touch-screen or hearing people on the phone during Songkran. Just make sure the bag has a double ziplock seal.

Is it worth renewing my AppleCare on my MacBook Pro these days or not really

Last one I got a replacement battery out of it which isn't covered any more but what's the failure rate these days I know if it does devellop a known fault Apple will fix it even if it's out of warranty...

It's also an extra $400 I could use in my pocket

Not worth it. If it's that far out of warranty and you know how to fix a computer, why not buy the parts for yourself at a cheaper rate?

Find your model mbp on ebay and see what its second hand market replacement value is. If it's closer to the price of a new entry level mbp of the same screen size than the $400 applecare then it's probably worth it. If it's closer to the $400 then probably better to go without applecare and buy a used/new one if it breaks, then dismantle the old one to sell the working parts on ebay.

Still around the $2K mark on eBay. It used to be a no brainer with what a new logic board was worth, but what's the chance of it failing these days and what are they worth now?

As I said I got a new battery out of my old MacBook Pro (which I bought second hand on eBay) which wouldn't be covered by extended AppleCare now anyway,

Leaning towards taking a gamble, especially how well my old MBP held up after 5 years or so. (Gave it to the exgf when I got my new one last year, it's still going strong)

most likely the only thing that'll fail on the old machine is the HDD. my ibook held up for 7 years before dying...not too shabby

I plan to drop in an SSD once they're a bit more affordable anyway

you may be waiting a while there! the rise of smart phones has caused a considerable strain on solid state supplies

i'm considering a dual SSD/HDD combo in my machine

That's the point of it. I quite like the iPad Music app, might buy it just because it has good design/innovation though.

iOS 5.1.1

*Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
*Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
*Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
*Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
*Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase

iCloud Reminders and Notes apps spotted in the wild. Was bound to happen considering how much weight Apple's throwing behind iCloud and the iCloud integration coming in Mountain Lion.
