Advice needed: xone92 or djm800
Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a dj mixer after a long hiatus. Im considering a Allen & Heath xone92 or a djm800, just wanted some honest opinions on the the two mixers before I make a purchase. I will be running it with two technics 1200s and two cdj 1000s. I know the xone92 has no built in effects unit but will purchase an external unit if need be, whereas the djm800 is pretty much the industry standard but I'm not so sure about the build quality.

I can get them both second hand for a similar price.

Cheers

^^What he said,

although if you like cranking the flanger to 11 and fist pumping you could go the 800.

Don't get caught up in the whole 'industry standard' thing, it means nothing, besides lots of places have a+h mixers and lots of dj's ask for them on their riders.
Check it ****s.

since you posted in the Steve Bug thread in melbourne I am assuming that's more the music you're interested in?

if so then the Xone every day and twice on sunday.

gotta love getting back into it... I recently pulled out my laptop, controller and Vestax PMC 37PRO for shits and giggles.

<3 having a bit of a mix every now and then still

Wicked, thanks for the quick responses guys! You summarized my thoughts. There's a dude selling a 92 on the forums ATM, just need to lock it in.

Yeah I sold my entire set up 4 yrs ago and regretted it immensely.

The Pioneer has really crap phono preamps compared to the 92, if playing vinyl there is no comparison.
Thats not even going into the build quality but i won't go on about what i'm sure you know!!

Send/Return on the '92 is also much more functional, has more options, and works better than on the 800

Personal thing definitely. Both are well known for a reason. Both are built pretty well (the Xone is a tank, and the 800 is pretty easy to replace anything that breaks). Filters/EQ on the xone are nicer, but there is a wider range of effects on the DJM, it depends on how you like to mix. If you don't mind going with an external effects unit (it's an important consideration), I'd say the Xone.

DB2 vs djm-900 would be interesting.

EDIT:: posted while I was replying. Congrats Nocturnal

Xone 92 is a machine.

Purchased the DB4 - it is a beast if you like remixing on the fly and matrix switches get you excited

The EFX-1000, Korg KaossPad Quad, Korg Kaosspad KP3 are all pretty awesome. I think the Kaosspads are much better value though. I had a Mini-KP for a while and it was pretty good fun and intuitive to use quickly.

a 800 is the basic all round device which is excellent in clubs because it is quick and easy to add or subtract devices for a turn around in djs, cheap and easy to fix, and has cheap basic effects for a dj to fist pump their awesomeness.
Its success in the club atmosphere leaves it short changed at home because DJs at home want to learn specific skills, and the fear of cutting music and trainwrecking does not have the same effect as in a club.
I enjoy playing vinyl, but ever since a rave party where blood sort of splattered over the dj booth and stuffed up one of the turntables cartridges (still have blood marks permanently stained on the middle of the vinyl) leaving me playing from one table while cleaning the other for 15mins... I've been happy to use cdjs which i've had many a patron share a drink with as thanks for playing their favoured tunes.

At the up coming Zabiela boat party it is advertised as a djm 600, 2 x 1000's and 2 x 1200's. I understand the 1000's over newer decks as the are rock solid without unnecessary features. I don't understand the choice of the 600? Any ideas? Also I wonder of turntables skip on a boat?

As long as the boat rocks slowly she turntables won't be too much of a problem, If it's a big boat you'll be fine!!
The DJM600 sucks ass big time, and playing turntables through any of the DJM's is pretty woeful, they have the worst Phono Pre's!!

That's lazy promoting copy n paste from some other OLD AS FUCK page...Zabs will not be playing on a DJM 600 or CDJ 1000's and I highly highly doubt he'll have a turntable there either...mother fucker uses and iPad these days to trigger samples and effects from his laptop

Glad you picked up the Xone mate. I also own one (replaced my DJM400 with it) and couldn't be happier. It's a beautiful piece of equipment to use - build and sound quality are simply fantastic!
