hmmm now that's given me an image of a **** with a bandaid on it.

I find it works pretty well at making me initially tired enough to go to sleep, but without leaving me groggy in the morning (like sleeping pills would).

Only problem is if my damn cats or something wake me up in the middle of the night and then I cant get back to sleep again

Putting a band-aid on a vagina would be very strange, but yeh valerian is useless. I took 3x the dosage (over the night, not all at once) and still didn't sleep.

I've been finding that ZMA has helped me fall asleep. It doesn't make you sleepy, but as soon as I lie down BAM I'm out.

The best thing I found for sleeping, back in a time when I'd been suffering from all kinds of problems like insomnia and early waking (around 4am every night, fuckign soul-destroying), was doing repeated relaxation exercises with visualisations.
Of course it took a bit of practice before it came naturally, but after years of that, they work like a charm now. No more sleeping problems.

Head to bed around 1am on average. Asleep by 2ish. Would love to stay up later as I'm all about the night time but it's a struggle the next day.

Much better these days, usually asleep by 3am (up about 6:30-7am for work). I used to sleep once every 2 nights but these days that only happens every now and then. Insomnia sucks arse.

You've got to be kidding, to be in bed by 8:30pm I'd have to sleep while still at work most of the time.

Work nights head to bed at 11 or 12 and most times watch some tv for half an hour. Get up for work at 6:15.

Weekends I go to bed around the same time and sleep in until 10 or so and feel horrible 9 out of 10 times when I wake up, go figure.

This might sound really strange to people but whenever I can't sleep, I think about ways to hunt and capture Bigfoot, or I think about how cool it would be to live in classical Rome...or having a Black Swan threesome.

Seems promising, I've just downloaded it and will try it out asap.

On topic, I have occasional insomnia problems, so I've always had a rocky sleeping schedule. Sometimes it's 1 AM, sometimes it's 6 AM, but usually it's around 2-3 AM.

For people wanting to get to sleep and stay asleep try getting Restavit over the counter at your pharmacy and then just break the tablet into quarters. Works really well in helping you get a solid 8 hour sleep with no drowsiness in the morning. It is easy to become reliant on using them though, but I figure it's only a quarter of the standard dose that's packaged so it can't be too bad. Hopefully.

Have you tried this? Or are you just making assumptions?

I'm a bit confused because at the end you say hopefully.

Have looked into Restavit but not convinced.

I've pulled a career change that's seeing me changing from a cushy 9-5, Monday to Friday, to a 4/5 day on 3 day off roster that involves 6am starts, midday starts and 10pm starts all in the same week.. And pretty mentally demanding work so I need a good 7-8 hours sleep before each shift.

So I'm looking at different options for 'sleep enhancers'. Restavit looks a bit dicey... Melatonin looks the goods but I don't think it's legal here? And I don't really want to be drinking myself to sleep daily! Any other ideas..?

I take half a restavit and it works pretty well for me. Far harder to get out of bed in the morning though, and it takes a good couple of hours before you are at full speed. You can also become dependent if you take it every day.

I know 5-HTP (similar to melatonin) also works pretty well and with far fewer side effects. But I don't think it's legal.

Speaking from experience. I take a quarter almost every night to help me sleep. I guarantee every insomniac here will be surprised at what a quarter of Restavit can do for them. Was saying there's hopefully not any damage with long-term use, especially when divided into quarters. But you never know.

A lot of that article is rubbish, but 7, 9, 10 & 11 are good. Meditation's a big one. Took me ages to retrain myself to switch off when I get into bed but it's second nature now and it can be done.

TV's not supposed to be good as the brightness and colour inhibits melatonin production but I find it hard to sleep without something I've seen before on in the background (if I put something I haven't seen on I tend to stay awake to watch).

I usually go to sleep around midnight-1am, but if I plan to get up for running (usually at 5:30am) I'll try for 10 or 11. Doesn't always happen though

E: Chamomile or herbal tea with chamomile's good too, try mixing it with a bit of damiana for extra relaxant

Restavit is an antihistamine. Apparently antihistamines go fine for half the people out there, and don;t agree with the other half. Im in that category.

Doc prescribed some other ones and started with a half and kept downsizing till it was just a few crumbs. Still left me groggy for 24 hrs+

Just an update - I've been using that Flux application Funkedub recommended, for about a week now, and it really works wonders for the eyes. Makes is much easier to stare at the screen at night, and eyes don't burn as much.
Also I get to know the exact time of sunset and sunrise. (Yeah, my sleeping schedule still keeps me up until sunrise sometimes...)

Restavit keeps me awake oddly enough. Bought some to help fall asleep and ended up awake until 6am after taking it.
