commando absolutely no questions asked. Knicks are designed to be worn with nothing underneath + you look stupid with something underneath

reason being that i wear the baggy knick/short combo mostly at the moment (commando) as I'm not doing long rides, but a proportion of guys (enough to obviously ask the question) you can easily see they're wearing jocks underneath.

edit: before everyone else gets in....

fuck me... he's still holding it and has team mates (that i can see) in the closest pack behind.

dude is nailing it on the stones. I had respect for him before but just wow.

edit: not holding, GROWING! over the cobbles.

Wow, what a ride from Boonen. Caught the last 80km and while he went out in front not long after, I didn't think he'd hold out. I love how good he is on the cobbles, he'd claw a few seconds every time he'd get on them and just became unstoppable.
Real shame Chavanel had a puncture and lost so much time, would have been nice to see what he can do.

That was an epic ride. I missed out on the beginning since because of the world championships in Melbs.

Anyone here ride a Merida? This looks to be a reasonable deal (to my eyes, anyway): http://www.goldcross.com.au/online-s...19#Description

Aluminum frame/carbon fork/ultegra. Thoughts?

astro whats going on? is this all part of the moving-to-the-country fantasy or a new career when you get back?

one of my friends' first roadie was a merida, it was a great bike (i think he did 2 or 3 Around the Bays on it) but he did eventually get a BMC. it would be a great entry level bike. (my roadie is Aluminum frame/carbon fork/ultegra)
if i could think of something witty to say i'd put it here

decent buy, but i'd probably drop gruppo back to 105 and get a carbon frame.

tcr is racing geometry, probably better off going for something more comfy such as the defy advanced series.

im bored so i'll have a look for some bargains.

check out Fuji Bikes.........some of the best value bikes around IMO

http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bicyc.../nsw/102071622

Full carbon with shimano 105 for $1899 is excellent value

and

http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bicyc.../nsw/102082830

you won't find carbon with 105 at better value. fuji are better bikes than merida

Good to hear. Cadel will be in with a massive chance to go back to back this year.

I think the Schlecks have conceded the TdF because of the time trials and are concentrating on the Giro.

Yeah, Fuji bikes are highly regarded generally. I rode a friend's one (carbon, ultegra, racing dimensions.. can't remember the name) felt really good.

that's insane, that wheelset is $1300 AUD RRP (me and some others got them for $610 last year though hehe) and the groupset is worth prolly $2k+ at best net prices.

the malvern star oppy carbons are just badged, cheap oem frames from taiwan or china, but for that price you're getting it free anyway

total, total overkill for a first bike, but why not.

don't forget to budget in at least $250 for pedals, shoes and a helmet and another $100 for knicks and a jersey. and then hundreds more for all the other shit you'll accumulate

i say this because i thought people were exaggerating and it's somewhat disturbing how much ive spent in only 14 months of cycling :S

hmm. . .their plan to conceed the TdF and win the Giro hasn't worked out all that well, firstly andy didn't even start the giro, and now frank has pulled out!

oh and speaking of the tour, in 2 weeks time i'm off to france to cycle some hills

and then in 6 weeks time i'm going to give this a bash:

then stay on to watch that stage plus a couple more and then eventually go to paris for the finish.

i'm getting pretty excited, however my legs are a bit wary.

I take that at roughly 4,500m vertical for that stage.

wow... I could think of more fun things to do on my holidays!

nah will be easy peasy

fingers crossed it will go ok, a friend and i have been pretty consistent with our hills work (as much as you can do in perth), the only potential issue is the 4 weeks of holidays in between arriving in europe and the ride.

could lose some fitness if i'm not careful, and drink HEAPS of beer.
