Any suggestions about what I can do to maintain some semblance of fitness while my knee unfucks itself? I can do one-legged pushups and pullups, but am open to other suggestions. Tapout, anything you suggest?

Go swimming? Just don't do breastroke and and don't kick that much if at all when doing freestyle.

In other news, Icebreaker Run Tracer jacket arrived. Looks pretty schmick can't wait to try it out - cheers Tapout and Eddeh.

I didn't even think of swimming, thanks. Specific form of knee fuckage is unknown until I see the specialist next week, but given I can barely walk, anything with knee bendage (cycling, rowing) are out. I'll ask my physio about swimming.

Running with a jacket in Sydney makes no sense to me. I've never had to run in anything more than shorts and a t-shirt, even in Winter rain.

are you a member of a gym? should be able to do a fair bit of upper body stuff - use the machines so that you can isolate and don't have to use your legs to stabilise

Gus - not currently, but one of the climbing gyms I go to has a weights gym as well. Looks like I'll be going there a bit more often.

Get a floaty to wedge between your knees and do freestyle laps just using your arms. Absolute upper body ownage, you have to work harder because you don't have your legs as stabilisers

haha yeah

get some rings, can string em up anywhere and they are super for upper body strengthening. you could do ring dips, pull-ups, rows (if you support your bad leg), one legged ring pushups. heaps of stuff

i've got a spare pair if you wanna borrow then for a couple of weeks to see if you like em, you'll probably end up buying a pair coz they are awesome

My physio had me do this when my knee/quad was fucked.

Funny story today.

Did a meter swap over at a house, turned the main switch back on only to find a medium sized fluffy dog running around. The roller door opened automatically and the little shit came out. It growled at my co worker when he went over to it I had to pat my legs yelling "c'mon" to get the thing back inside, closed the inner garage door and then closed the roller door again. That was an easy one I guess.

forgot about that effort. Dunc - have you booked in an MRI? Depending on how fucked it feels, i would almost save yourself the time and mucking around and get an MRI done ASAP to rule out a meniscus/tendon tear. Biggest regret i have about my knee was not getting everything diagnosed and fixed as soon as i could. The time difference between the injury and the surgery meant that i had more damage than i probably should have had i'd had the injury fixed within a few weeks.

If youre looking for workouts, the one legged row is fun, kipping pullups and swimming is what i focussed on when i was injured.

Tapout: my physio reckons it's likely only a strained MCL, but he's more worried about a potential stress fracture of the head of the tibia. Both my physio and GP reckon meniscus damage is unlikely, which is reassuring. I'm seeing the specialist next Tuesday and keeping weight off it as much as possible in the meantime, and doing the exercises my physio gave me. I'm going to call him tomorrow and find out if swimming is ok - fingers crossed. I haven't had an MRI or x-ray yet, physio and doctor both seemed to think that would only be necessary if the orthopedic surgeon ordered them.

Ah cool beans. Stress fractures heal reasonably quickly, the head of my tibia was a mess of fractures after the accident but has healed ok since, although i cant run on it but i suspect thats more to do with the cartliage damage than anything else. Good luck with it, proper knee injuries are incredibly debilitating and frustrating to deal with.

Fuck, I'm exhausted. 10 hours driving on 2 hours sleep, pretty much staying awake on coffee, coke and V. I feel like utter shit. On the upside the employment situation is looking better than expected, gonna be an interesting next few days.
