Meeting the people you respect in music is a thrill sometimes, but i've never had to enter a competition to do it ... Besides i've got no chance of winning i'll just grab those stems and amuse myself with them ... thanks Phil & Paul ... thanks ITM!

Also, if you're paying that much you're shopping at the wrong place!!

Sounds like there's several. Did it sound out of key at all to anyone who listened? Really clashing in my opinion.

Wow - this one will be hard. Downloading the stems now, so I guess I'll have a listen to each one individually...

Thinking a driving proggy techno mix, but not sure at this stage... It doesn't really have a standout 'hook' like other pieces, but that should make for a more interesting remix challenge to be honest!

Yep, definitely sounded out of key a few times to me. Glad it wasn't just me, because often when I hear shit out of key no-one else seems to have a problem with it

I tried placing a 160-165 dnb-ish beat underneath the master vocal after warping.

It was fucked.

It's in A minor. I'm listening to the original now, doesn't seem to be anything clashing... maybe a little bit with the sample and hold type res chord that's right at the start.

Bassline resolves on A every time.

What's the other stuff doing though, it was the synth that clashed in my opinion.

Started something last night. Is always fun working with full stems like this, though it can lead to lazy arrangements. Will probably just put it up for download if I finish it as not particularly interested in the prizes.

The conditions for this contest seem absurd. Surely if you are going to do something for nothing with little reward and no offer of promotion, surely you'd be entitled to maintain some rights to the track? Or am i missing something?

Regardless of whether it's a competition or not, you will never own the rights to something you remix. It just doesn't work like that. Remixes are 'extra production' credit but not writing credit. Therefore (unless agreed specifically, there are always exceptions to the rule) no royalties are paid which is why a fee or percentage is agreed on before the remix is undertaken.

Orbital are pioneers in dance music so it's a good opportunity, I remixed them recently for free and will not make a cent from it yet I would do it again a hundred times over.

Keep in mind the scope of the remix contest, it's pretty much for ITM only even though a ton of lurkers probably enter. They aren't actually looking for or expecting a cream of the crop remix they would play out, it's more a less a favour to the forum and its users.

Are the remix stems still up somewhere? I just tried clicking on the original link and it says the competition is no longer open.

yes i realise that - incorrect use of the word rights on my behalf. But as you mentioned, usually there is a production credit and not even this (or anything else of real value) is offered.

Anyway...

@Jude May: You got it - I surely was in that troupe from medieval times, Zephyr Timbre... And thanks for the feedback, man - if only we could find out who has won this comp. I would love to meet the legendary Hartnoll brothers...
