So did another mate of mine. He 'came to' with a bright light in his eyes and was wondering how much time had passed.

We were in there about 730 one Sunday morning. I was trying to keep warm and my eyes open. Next minute bouncer is there - time to go home mate. I was thinking YES thank fuck for that.

Thanks for last night Spice Cellar. Was very generous, was awesome. Derrick still holds it down, didn't blow my mind, but it was Derrick, right?

Derrick is over rated imho..

There are much better people from Detroit you could tour that haven't been out to Australia 84 times..

I'm surprised to hear you say that, Kzzy...

You tour DetRiot artists, and the fact will always be, that a lot of them are not always the most technically-versed, and it's been a long-running accepted standard/joke/cultural phenomenon that many of them are that way. We do, however, for the most part accept it and just go to see what they do on the night.

Derrick May is legend, but he is also a DJ, and sometimes he's on fire, and sometimes he's not. He peaks our interest, love & loyalty, which is why whether we've seen him 50 times, or like some I espyed, seeing him for the first time we go. So why wouldn't you tour him, especially if you're Laundry, and your M.O. is to ensure the club pulls through the big names.

If you could point me in the direction of a better techno dj than him it would be great. I've been trying to find one for a long time now. Night was fun, thanks for having him do a 2nd round. Sydney needs more mid week gigs for the heads like that.

My point about DM being overrated is that I don't think it's worth touring him so many times in such a short period of time when there is a raft of other DJs from the same area or type of music that would probably be a better bet..

That's all..

I know DM is a great DJ but fuck I aint going out of my way just to see him play..

Plus Sofie Loizou is repping the Ozzies at Outlook. So cool, go give her a hi-five if you end up going.

Cheers, It's obviously going to be a subjective thing. I've seen both Mills and Surgeon. Both are brilliant. I prefer Derrick though.

Derrick May and Surgeon cannot be compared IMO.

two totally different DJs in there own right.

I'm not sure hey. When comparing DJs I don't take into consideration the medium they use or the style of music they play. A DJ is someone who selects and plays recorded music. I don't think May would have the vision or ability to put together some of the music that Surgeon has and is capable of.

As you said mentioned these are only personal opinions and I'm commenting for discussion purposes, not to shut anyones opinion down.

It is worth mentioning that I have not seen Derrick May live, I've only ever heard recorded sets.

EDIT: After giving it all little more thought and to contradict myself somewhat, I think the selection of songs does need to be taken into consideration but not necessarily the genre the DJ has been labelled with. If that makes any sense?

Derrick translates much better live compared to recorded.
