Suggestion for Local Content
Hello ITM overlords. To get to the point; it seems that ITM suffers from a drought of actual local news in terms of recognising home grown talent unless such talent manages to find international attention. I pointed this out recently on a news article and it seems people agreed with me quite a bit.
To quote from my original post on the matter, of which 10 others agreed with (or 'liked'):
What would be nice is if ITM actively sought out local talent; for example, the Sydney artist PIXL who recently won a Kaskade & Adam K remix competition for their track 'Raining'. I don't think it would hurt to widen the scope to other professions related to EDM either, like Australian vocalists doing well e.g. Amba Shepherd whose worked with artists like Porter Robinson, Ferry Corsten, Nick Galea to name some artists who have had some ITM coverage. An interview of such artists would be nice, as an example, and undoubtedly there is other upcoming Australian talent out there - but it takes some digging to find them rather than EMI throwing them on your doorstep.
As I've said, I realise ITM has to cover certain artists to draw in a stable amount of traffic and perhaps satisfy sponsor labels if that exists, but I don't think it would cause any harm to actually throw the spotlight on homegrown artists, people I regularly seek out myself as a local producer and EDM enthusiast. Unfortunately though, those kind of artists are never covered on ITM - hence leading me to scour for such news and it seems I'm not alone in sharing a desire for more relevant local content.
I hope this doesn't come off as offensive to anyone at ITM, I'm not trying to criticise as much as provide suggestions as to what I think your readers would be interested in, and what would actually promote EDM in Australia. At the moment, ITM promotes largely artists who already have a huge fanbase and who don't really need the extra coverage, e.g. the rumour-mill and coverage of producer / dj twitter arguments which are mildly interesting at best if you are a die-hard fan. It would be a breath of fresh air to actually raise awareness of home grown artists who could really use the coverage.
