EoP is boss. I've been running some NetComm kit I got from JB for months now with no issues at all. HD streaming works a treat and the server is linked to the router through the EoP link rather than direct to my router. Not the most ideal setup but works perfectly regardless.

Right you are wikibot, I guess I've only called them that after seeing them mis-labeled/categorised in online stores.

Wait a sec whilst I go back and edit my posts to ease your network sperging datacenter neckbeard eye twitch.

As an aside, how does the WDTV live handle seeking (fast forwarding) through HD media in MKV containers when streaming off a network share? We all know that a media player off PS3MS sucks absolute balls.

Does the WDTV stand up to this?

It works, but is not great. The older wdtv live actually have some of the same issues with the newer mkv spec that TSMuxer does with PS3MediaServer.

It won't shitout because it isn't remuxing on the fly though.

I'm assuming you already thought of this, but if your laptop has HDMI out, just plug it into the tv for an instant media centre.

The main problem with the cheaper media boxes is the slow/shitty UI and lack of glorious Bluetooth remote.

When I first saw the ps3 had a Bluetooth remote, I thought it was stupid. Now I get annoyed by all non Bluetooth remotes.

Laptop down through the HDMI cable into the TV? Bism definitely would never have thought of that.

Hmm, wonder if this android based tv box ($149) could handle 1080p alright.. might be another option to consider bism.

Doesn't seem to have wireless N, so you'd probably definitely want some kind of ethernet connection.

there's a whole bunch of similar generic droid devices on dealextreme, they claim 1080p... range down to $80, and from the comments i remember there is some huge performance leap between 2.2 and 2.3

I prefer the interface before they updated when the 1080p model was released. Icons in the latest update are a bit too retro/blocky for my liking. Might appeal to Gruso though.

y'know i'm thinking this thing here gru mentioned in the android thread could be viable for this. probably doesn't fit bism's specs but wouldn't be the worst option

I fucking love the PS3 remote. The only problem is when you sit on it accidentally, it will always turn your console on when you don't want it to.

bought a WDTV Live on monday. Easy as to set up, as long as you have sharing done correctly on your computer itll connect up with no problems (i didnt so took me a while to get it going, had some other underlying issues on my computer) but after that i can now watch anything off my computer easy as pie.

Apple TV:
1. Enable iTunes Home Sharing in iTunes and enter iTunes username and password when prompted

Windows 7:

1. Open WMP and make sure your video folder is included in the library
2. Close WMP and never open that shit again
3. Turn on WDTV/PS3/whatevs, DLNA does the rest.

AppleTV can't play AVI or MKV without jailbreaking, and for a jailbroken Apple TV, refer to Gruso's post earlier in this thread for how good that is
