is he still going? if I hadn't had better things to do on the w'end I would have called in
This is no love song and it serves no use, but if you want to sing along to some verbal abuse
It might make you feel better and it's good for the soul, take four letters and let's rock n roll

ITM has its uses/moments. But it's possible we have passed any golden era it might have enjoyed.

Dj Hertz... Looks very very bored. I have no idea what dj'n for 70hrs is like, but I'm guessing most people really would give a fuck about their mixing after 50hrs, which was pretty obvious from the last mix I just watched. Is there some sort of guidelines that define DJ'n for a world record? or you can just keep playing music for as long as you want.....train wreck or not?

I started mixing with cassettes and then moved to turn tables back in the late 80's. Through time DJing has grown into larger scale platforms with USBs and computers on multi touch screens. When someone plays, its not just about pushing buttons on a laptop for preset playlists. This requires matching and synching skills combined with musical knowledge and strong mathematical aptitude. Six years ago, I thought about playing for a Guinness World record of 100 hours and learned that accomplishing an attempt to publicly spin music without sleep for multiple days requires courage. It also requires excellent health, clear state of mind, determination, good funding and sponsors to really make a successful go at breaking a record. I salute Rene Brunner (DJ DC), Smokey Joe, Hertz, and others for attempting and/or achieving their records, regardless of how Guinness or amateur spectators label each attempt.

It's easy for people to be critical and negative. I know many DJs..good ones, bad ones, and the rest. Regardless of how we measure success here, very few have the tenacity and drive to take on this challenge. We can all take a lesson from Smokey who is taking the latest GWR information like a real winner. Good luck to Hertz. Hope he achieves his attempt and much more. May we have half of the strength and focus these DJs have to achieve our own dreams.

i'm pretty sure the record attempt defines djing as playing non-stop music, as it doesn't specify accuracy of mixing i'm guessing radio dj style

Nah, that was james cameron i think..

And in my eyes, it's clear that he is only doing this to promote himself as a DJ and bolster his meager profile. How many of you can even say you knew who he was before this? After this, he definitely won't be putting anything back into the scene. And as a person, the way he carries himself and behaves is not favourable.

Well yes, but that's generally the point of most world records I'd say - fame and fortune...

I can't picture the bloke who can eat the most quantity of goat's cheese ever setting out to break that record in hope of being sought out by the local dairy farmers based on his extraordinary cheese-eating abilities.

I haven't seen this Hertz guy come on ITM wishing other people would fail at their endeavours, so in my eyes he carries himself and behaves alot better than any local DJ with tall poppy syndrome.

My angle was more of a bored poppy syndrome ... (him, not me)

Anyway, i think Gruso had a lucid moment here which accounts for the lack of overwhelming support for Mr Hertz

By all means, he's doing something that most folks wouldn't consider, let alone attempt ... but in all seriousness and honesty, what exactly (or even vaguely) does this do for "dance music" and/or its community?!

doesnt really matter what industry hes in or what hes doing it seems you cant call someone out on mediocrity(or outright poo) if they are trying to perceive themselves as "great" without having that whole tall poppy thing thrown round. everyone is trying to achieve something, good or bad, theres ways to go about it, some you cop ridicule for, others you dont regardless of your stature or social standing.

but yes more to the point is what gruso said in dubz link, all hes doing is staying awake cos hes certainly not djing, at least those ppl that did it for that b105 competition awhile back were doing it for money.

hang on... dont you need to be a tall poppy to begin with?

when it directly relates to an industry I've been in for 7yrs that is already getting a bad rap for which other DJs have to answer for and put up with it is sometimes hard to just let things slide. Realistically, any crackhead could just sit there and play radio edits for 160hrs and get the record for "Longest 'DJ' Set World Record"..... to me a title like that should mean something, if you're down with mediocracy then by all means enjoy that while doing the best for you. I'm considering the thoughts and feelings of others who put in work and paved the way for DJs everywhere, if you disagree with my "opinion" then that's fine, but don't tell me what to do.

\I'm not trying to gain publicity and couldn't care less if anyone else pays attention, I'm simply trying to state my opinion on the matter, at no point in time have I told anyone what to do, I have given props for the time endured but simply stated my unhappiness with the standard. Someone who writes a novel (9th May 3:16am I believe someone rambled on) and then quotes multiple people with his 2 cents is the one starved for attention IMO.

20 mins to go and its just him and his makes and a token chick sitting round. Hasn't touched the decks in a good 10-15 mins. I was willing to give this guy a go but its beyond a joke. Well done dj hertz you stayed up for 7 days straight (actually you didnt even do that as you slept a bit). So essentially you just sat in the same vicinity listening to loops and itunes for a week.

ive been watching this go on for a while now... why is there so many haters out there... at the end of the day does it really affect you? has it stopped you from going about your daily lives?
no wonder ITM is soo irrelevant these days when its full of jaded ****s,
The guy ( who i dont even know) is trying something... apparently its for cancer research as well, good on him I say.... I love how everyone is commenting on his mixing and dj too... who cares... he's not in a DMC comp.
At the end of the day this is a goal he set and he broke it.... despite dj, the fact he is still awake is a feat in its self.

faaarrrkinng helll.. cant believe he made it
Did he change up the music at all? I tuned in a couple of times over the week and it was always pretty banging electro
Cant imagine 7 days of it.. I wonder if he received any permanent ear damage? Must have a very strong or simple mind..
Either way thats an achievement and pretty good an aussie from bris owns the world record now. congrats!!

Ergh no, breaking a world record should be about accomplishing a personal achievement. Not fame and fortune.

You're right, it does, but after being awake for 50+ hours straight who can still be expected to beat match? Check out the stories from Smokin' Joe, he'd be staring at the track playing and then suddenly realise he'd have less that 15 seconds to mix out of it.

I agree, I haven't seen anything about cancer research though, you sure it wasn't Smokin' Joe that did it for cancer research?

He's definitely done well for himself and congrats to the guy. Anyone thinking it's going to change things around Brisbane or says "oh this is so good for our scene" is sadly mistaken though. Also anyone who expects him to still be able to string two beats together after being awake for 100+ hours straight needs to put their money where their mouth is.
