I do agree with a more radical approach to taxation of resources but when you look at the difference between the UK and here... considering how long the UK has had natural offshore gas and oil resources it's in a pretty bad fucking way!

It's pretty much all I've done for the past month trying to get tunes together for the two radio mixes and one podcast I need to record before I head OS. Soooo many tunes.

So is Australia; they're just stuck in mid-Thatcherite era toryism.

Edit - and probably views on religion/colour and sexuality come to think of it. Next up... the unions.

im sure it's not. and i'm sure you're mates with some band/artist that has. or use to put them on in a random town outside of Belfast or where ever it is you're from

Pretty awesome if you buy off beatport too, as you get all the tunes included, plus a bunch of exclusives!

Yeah, the herp's too strong with the derp, especially in CUB central over here. Oh well, few more years or so and I might shift back over to Melbs. Hell, even a transfer to RMIT would be great if I could get it to work somehow.

I reckon an hour long is a decent amount of time. You can really get into it and give it a solid workout, without leaving you feeling like you've had too much of a good thing or tired afterwards. 2 hours is just long, and you end up wanting to just hurry up and get to the good part and the middle of it just feels too routine. Sometimes i just get a bit numb from all the banging and repetitiveness of it all...

Wait a tick are we still talking about mixes or what?

I think I hold binned a couple but didn't buy any. I'm sure they sound good in his mix when they're all together but most were kinda uninspiring separately.

If I do a long one I'll try do it in 2 distinct parts, so you can wack it on 2 cds, and get a bit long journey if you want. Or just listen to either cd on their own However I do have a stacker in my car so that kind of helps!

I reckon 2 hours is perfect although I've marathoned through some long Magic Show sets in the past like their top 500 set that went for around 12 hours and they can be pretty good if you've got the time to devote to them.

i love a good long set, saves me getting up to put something else on every hour

also when i have a mix at home i get sucked into a time vortex and play for 3+ hours no worries

agreed.

Danny Howells is the king of longer sets imo.

but its a skill. and most DJ's dont have it because its so rare to have that long to play in a club. thats why its not always the best idea to give all these internationals that come down 3+ Hour sets, especially if they're not use to it. it can be detrimental.

i'd rather an international bang out an awesome 2 hour set, and give a local a 90-120 min warm up set for them than a 60min warm up, 3 hour int set which goes nowhere for the middle 90 minutes (which ive seen happen a lot)

I don't know how it would play in a club full of non-fans but I thought Aphex Twin's set earlier this year was awesome and is a style that more DJs should try. He played 90 minutes starting with really down-tempo stuff then slowly increased the intensity of the music and ended with a couple of hardcore tracks. I'd love to hear that sort of variety in clubs instead of the same type of music for the whole set.

On a (sort of) similar note, I went to a goth / industrial club the other week and the first DJ played speedcore, the second DJ played acid techno and the third DJ played techno I didn't actually hear any EBM until after 2:00am

Yeah i don't mind if someone is playing live to listen for hours. Like my housemate will get on and mix away and we'll spend a whole afternoon just kicking back and smashing beers.

But if it's a particular mix i think hour long bursts are sweet.

You get people over and tell them you'll put on a good deep house mix and if it takes 30 mins to get into it, they really aren't all that impressed.

Each to their own really, if you have a few hours to kill then a longer mix is sweet. But i rarely have 2-3 hours to kill at any one time
