If this was summer and I was going to a trance night, I would expect to be able to wear shorts.
It doesn't need to be a trance night, if it's hot I wear shorts to a lot of places.

Besides the point, sneakers and a t-shirt should be acceptable attire at a night like that.

anything about line to get in...bar lines?

I was keeping a look out on the crowd to see if they were there for Trance or regulars and I can safely say the full dance floor space was packed with people there for Trance while the rest of the club was mainly people there for Marquee. A&B do have a loyal following and loads of people I spoke to made the effort to get dressed up for this. Overall a good crowd and not to many guys in groups which made it good for a Trance event. Line up was busy but it moved quickly around 11pm as to fill the club up. I guess the key is to get there when they rush people in before main acts start.

Main bar was busy, but there are a few others that were easy to get a drink without lining up, I was expecting a $20 drink and was surprised it was on par with other clubs. Behind the DJ box is a big bar and no lines and there is a bar in the Communal Toilet Waiting area that was empty.

Good thing about the venue is that you are up close to the DJ so if you are a real fan you get a good experience. The sound and lasers are amazing as it has a mirrored roof so it really lights up well. Small side shows like A&B and others if they continue to do this will work. Oh and I did see a lot of Asians in the club so not sure why people are saying they don't get let in.

I don't know if it would have been less an issue because it would have been less busy for Avicii, but my impression is that there were Asians in the club for Avicii, but the management/door just felt there were too many in the line so turned a bunch away. Not stoping them get in altogether, just enforcing a race ratio (maybe like a boy/girl ratio?).
I've faith there is a future for us;

I went as well and I'm a major Trance Fan for the last 10 years. I didn't mind dressing up to get to experience what I experienced last night. Like TranceCentral said it is great to be up so close an intimate to an act like Above and Beyond like that. We showed them a message about how we saw them in Tomorrowland last year and they passed a beer over from their rider for us. It provided a connection that you just can't get a larger venues or festivals.

We also had no issues getting in waiting bout 20min after getting there at 9:30. I also attempted to go to Avicii which had maybe 10 or 20x the people there waiting by 7pm, so I don't think you can compare the two nights as far as getting into the place.

I do think the dress policy is a bit over the top considering when you look at the dj's on their bio page and videos they most of the guys are wearing t-shirts or in singlets, hell Nervo aren't even wearing pants . But I think their market is more for big spending people who want a premium experience and Marquee will bring that to them in the form of the world's best DJs. They aren't concerned with the average punter who might worship these dj's but aren't going to spend thousands of dollars like many people did last night. Which will be a shame if regular tours by dj's that used to be at Metro, Greenwood or Chinese Laundry start heading to Marquee.

Forgot to mention that Nik Fish followed up after Above and Beyond, now that was a surprise!

Almost correct but that was not Nik Fish, that was Sasha from Binary Finary. Although Nik was there hanging out.

I was there, and sorry to say TranceCentral and MikeG but Friday was a shit trance experience. It was pretty good front and centre (and about 10 people deep) but the further you get back the worse the crowd gets. Definitely not a dressed up Trance crowd at all. I was a little further back when they played Sirens by the Sea, and not a single person around me was even half mumbling the lyrics.

I heard people telling Binary Finary to 'play more vocal trance' and even one punter asking them to play Sun and Moon (thinking they were A&B).

Major shitstorm with security escorting Jonno and Paavo off stage, taking them behind (almost dragging them around) as punters wanted to get a photo. The problem? No direction of what was going on, whether or not they'd stay for photos and what not. Almost felt bad for them two with the way it was handled.

.

people can enjoy different forms of trance or other styles without knowing the lyrics to a track. Not everyone that goes clubbing gives a crap about tunespotting and humming lyrics or melodies

Any 'real' A&B or even fans of this type of trance would know Sirens of the Sea. Its one of their best productions to date still. Its hardly an unknown track.
Any proper trance crowd of this type would be singing/humming along to it. Not sipping there $12 drinks in black shoes asking for song requests lolol

It sounds like majority of the crowd have jumped on the bandwagon ever since they released Sun & Moon... And have fuck all clue about anything.

Bunch of wankers not humming the tunes. Glad I didn't go now.

maybe next time you promote your own night, you can have a clause on the flyer saying that people will have to recite the verses of sirens by the sea as a condition of entry.

good luck with the 25 people who turn up

Looking at the photos that inthemix has published, it's quite clear (thankfully) that there isn't a policy of not letting Asians in. And should Jono Grant have been allowed in without a collar?

Looking at that gallery, the club looks pretty great. That said, it doesn't look like somewhere you could get comfortable in to have a good dance and party.

I don't know that track, I stopped caring for their productions around 06-08 though so I probably missed the boat on that.

WIsh Sankeys from Manchester would open a club here - man, that place does clubbing properly. Sneakers, rave gear, dark pulsing room, two mains rooms (and a smaller opening room and outdoor chillout lounge) with everything from deep house, prog, trance, electro, dubstep, dnb, psy, breaks, grime...
