That keyboard looks so far back it seems analogous to reaching into a womb just to play a note.

I know he has two sets, I can see them. Still doesn't explain why the white ones are where they are. They are also blocking the black ones too.

Screw the Minitaur, I ended up getting these instead:

Phoscyon and Zebra 2 were second-hand. Komplete is the upgrade deal going on right now. Haven't owned any NI stuff prior except for Guitar Rig LE that was bundled with my DAW. My soft-synth arsenal is now almost complete. Next on my list: Retro Flute or Passion Flute for Kontakt.

New HCL Vari Mu compressor.....
Very pleased with a new studio purchase, this thing adds subtle glue, warmth and a little presence and 3D to the stereo image a real finishing box : ) It's the black unit with blue VU meters. PS the Phoscyon is a great 303 emulation.

KVR. It wasn't for much cheaper but came with three soundbanks. I didn't have any old analog synths I could take a photo of for the $50 discount and u-he stuff only ever gets price reduced during beta-testing.

AKG K702, upgraded from my K240 Studio. Highs are definitely much more accurate. Very muted so far but that's because they are brand new. I've heard ones that have been used for hundreds of hours and the sound is fantastic. Anyone know how long the burn in on these is? I'm reading on the internet that I'm looking at triple figures until they shine at their maximum potential.

From my personal experience with the 240s, I'm looking at about 25 hours at least until the sound softens up to a decent level. The difference between new 240s and fully burnt in ones is extremely noticeable so I'm expecting the same here.

i own a set of these it sorta depends what you are burning them in with i tried with a stereo then tried my SC on pc, but bairly noticed when they were right because i was listening all the time lol , apparently if you burn it with a good headphone ample (anything my SPL) halves the time either way i am happy with them gotta love that fit sometimes i forget i have them on they are that comfy

I need new cans as well. Been using HD 565 for more than a decade without earpads. My options:

AKG K702 (Display Unit, New Never Used) $267

AKG Q701 (Brand new) $335.83

Sennheiser HD600 (Brand new) $334

Sennheiser HD650 (Brand new) $424

The bumpy headbands on those AKGs look like they would hurt my head. But if I go with Sennys I know the cable connectors are likely to be an intermittent connection with sound cutting off sometimes.

Such a good price on display model K702s though but I have to order them blindly from the US.

Quite the opposite, the AKGs are incredibly comfortable. More so than any Senny or Beyer I've tried.
Afaik, the 701 and 702 are identical too.

I hate running out of voices though, which becomes much more common when using hardware inserts.

Yeah, you can chew through resources quickly if you aren't thinking about what you are doing. I haven't encountered many problems though. 24 channels are being used as just a "tape machine" patched into a console (the joys of inline desks). The real benefit I am finding is using HD TDM plugins as inserts on sends on the console.

Yeah, BFD2 just arrived here too. Trust you got the recent $149 special? Silly me got it from the USA (and paid shipping) whereas I then realised it was an international special and should have grabbed it direct from FX or local.

About to sit down now and get it mapped nicely to the V-Drums kit. I had BFD ECO playing reasonably fair, except a bug where the high-hat wouldn't stay held down (only mute an open hat). Switching the high hat modes on/off several times in BFD ECO would eventually clear it and it would come good. Weird.

Anyway, keen to hear BFD2's larger library, and also to add something like this:
https://www.platinumsamples.com/JoeBarresi.php

Or even this (which goes for around $60 and gets very strong reviews):

Surely that's gotta be under cost then? Given I'm not living in a city these days, shipping's a given. But do wish I'd bought local, as I always like to do when they're not taking the piss (ie. with a 300% mark-up on the overseas product).

I had previously ordered VSL SE Bundle but backed out of the sale as I realized that I may end up missing some important articulations like marcato, and then be tempted to start collecting their full instrument libraries. And if I wanted to get their pro instrument players and mixing hosts as well, I could end up spending close to 10K. And if I lost my USB key, what then? I sobered up, quick-smart.

Did I really want to compose Bach and Mozart concertos? Sure VSL has the most extensive and intricately sampled orchestra instruments available, but I could have been spending days previewing hundreds of different articulations for each MIDI note event in the piano roll and relying on them to make the phrase sound cool, rather than good old fashioned melody and harmony arrangement.

Another alternative was sample modelling instruments as this is the technology that is going to take samples further into increased realism and playability, with less RAM requirements. However, these can be quite CPU-intensive and not all instruments have been modeled yet. As with VSL, you need to be a great engineer to make them sound natural in a mix. I'm no TA.

In the end I decided to go with Spitfire's Albion, as their ensemble setups would be quicker to compose with. If I wanted more intricate parts, I could layer instruments from other libraries, and only then would I need to do tweaking to blend with the Albion sound.

This is going to be the most excruciating wait of my life. 18GB of data to download.

Albion is for the Doom MIDI files you posted, haha.

Anyway, you see lots of rockers converting to dance music. It's now cool enough for them to get into. Even Snoop Dog is getting into it. I am predicting extreme saturation of artists in the club dance genre, so I am making the migration to orchestral/medieval music, you know like the stuff they used to play at Australia's Wonderland.

Yep, saturation in every sense.

To keep my brain sane from the dance music mundane, I play percussion with the local music conservatorium orchestra.

While I do often find classical music a little too 'nice' and clichéd at times, every now and then something comes along (well this piece has actually been around for more than 130 years) with a darker undertone that I really dig...

Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre (aka 'the dance of death')

I dare say if you knew where to look, there'd be oodles of quality classical stuff, essentially copyright free (though the MIDI files and arrangements may not necessarily be) that are itching to be loaded into a quality orchestra soft synth.

Is it a full orchestra or something like 2 real string players augmented by a keyboard player playing samples, and you on the perc. Any YT vids?
Are you still doing the Miss Saigon gig? Should get your team to do Sweeney Todd next.

It's still fairly pretty music isn't it? Not macabre at all unless you read the info behind it, but I bet the teens of that period had mass musical orgies to that piece.

I know this is off topic but I grew up with my parents playing a shitload of classical and jazz, basically every day, at home, in the car, it spewed out of every speaker available, so for me it's all played out. Can only hear so many orchestral hits, violin or sax solos, opera and jazz singers saying the same shit, etc etc and then it all just loses its impact. Now the classical I come across just reminds me of cheesy american movies pumped full of cliches.

I know there is some dark shit out there for me to absorb, but I really havn't gone looking for it.

Anyway, to get this post back on topic, here are the parts for my ER18RNX kit speakers:
