Game Of Thrones RPG

Game of Thrones: The Roleplaying Game puts players in control of two original characters, Mors Westfold and Alester Sarwyck. They do not appear in the novels, although GRRM has indicated to the studio that he might choose to make mentions of them, their families, or details from the game’s story in later novels. The game does now have an open world like Skyrim or the old Baldur’s Gate game. Instead the story is divided into point of view-based “chapters”, with cliffhangers and twists ending each chapter, much like in the novels where one chapter from the perspective of one character is followed by a chapter from a completely different character. Both of them have special abiltiies and three fighting modes. Mors is a skinchanger and can slip into his dog to find secret paths or to listen in on conversations, and he can even follow a character’s tracks through scent. Alester is a red priest who can set fire on his sword using wildfire, he can look into the flames to find secrets, at higher levels, can use certain fire-based magic.

The characters are fixed in terms of background and appearances, but you can customize them greatly in terms of their abilities. First, you can choose different fighting styles. Mors can be set as a “Ragnar” [possibly Magnar? -Elio] (allowing dual-wielding), Hedge Knight (one two-handed weapon) or Landed Knight (a weapon in the hand, a shield on the other). Alester, on the other hand, can be set up as a Water Dancer (light and agile, with a slender blade), a Sellsword (daggers and poisons), or Ranger (Bow and arrows).

this actually sounds really fun, especially for any fans of the book series!

I guess they meant not.

I'll definitely check it out. I really like the way chapters are handled in the books. It'll be interesting to see how well it works in a game.

even if the game isnt good, the story is written by GRRM, so itll be worth playing just for the story itself.

probably be the best video game story ever.

Cashing in on the current popularity of a tv show means accelerated development time, which in turn most likely spawns a bad game.

The GoT RTS agrees. But the RPG is taking longer. That must mean quality.

hahaha waitwaitwait... There was a GoT RTS?

The best Game of Thrones game will always be the desktop board game.

The RPG has been in development since 2006 so it's not cashing in.

Media Player
Game of Thrones - »Winter«-Trailer zum Rollenspiel - YouTube

Graphics look roughly the same as Dragon Age or The Elder Scrolls, but it looks more like it's going to take The Witcher route in Gameplay and story methinks.

The RTS is pretty much just the Board Game in real time. (Second edition board game is fucking awesome if you haven't got it)

wasnt the RTS im production way before the TV show was, and hence why the characters look different to the tv show characters?

doesnt seem rushed to me.

edit: might be wrong after reading kirins post.

this rpg does sound fkn awesome though!

Yeah way to critique from your god damn emotionally absent ivory tower, Chippie. Judging a game before you've even played it.

I haven't watched the show. But I found the first novel very tedious and boring, the plot development is very slow and after like 600 pages nothing grabbed me so I stopped reading :o

Fair enough. I watched the show first, then read the first book. Book two went much faster - plenty of awesome action. It all peaks in the second half of book three, which sounds like a ridiculously tedious wait, but it's worth every page.

I'm on book four now, which feels slow like book one.

What's the bet that the character design for this game is going to look like a blooper reel of rejected characters from Age of Empires II...

It'll be just like The Hobbit game that came out after the LOTR movies.

heh, I'm on book four now as well, couldn't wait to start it after finishing book three.

I feel the same about book four, six hundred pages in and it is not really grabbing me with the new characters.

Game looks spectacularly bad. What exactly has it to do with Game Of Thrones?
Music is the best drug.

sounds like its a shit game but a good story for fans of GRRM and Song of Ice and Fire.

which is what i expected.

will wait for the $20 bin cause i wouldnt pay the price of a game just for the story.
