That whole EP is great, each track is a bit heavier/darker than the one before it. Terence Fixmer is quality.

Been caning every release of ho's for about 2 years now. His remix of Traversable Wormhole - Exoctic Matter and T47's - Sevals are unreal. Trippy hypnotic techo at it's best!

On the topic of Terence Fixmer, just came across this new mix from him -

Terence Fixmer - Ideal Podcast 018 (11th May 2012)

http://luckyshare.net/1775941170/Ter...1-2012-MW3.rar

Sombre, defined by surging rhythmical structures, Terence Fixmer’s music appeals as much to dancing feet, as it does to the searching soul.

Respected by his peers and adored by fans of radical over- and underground techno, electro, equally at ease in the club or at a pure techno festival, Terence reached this respected level, without ever succumbing to excessive promotion or subscribing to the mainstream.

His sound avoids repetition by developing soundscapes that appeal to the club crowd, whilst still maintaining musical depth and integrity. As a pioneer, he above all preserves an original style, an increasingly experimental, simultaneously ruthless and unrelenting interpretation of modern techno, which is instantly recognizable.

Tracklisting

01. Cassegrain - Painter of Modern Life (Ed Davenport Remix) - M-rec
02. Abdulla Rashim - Weldya - Prologue
03. Teste - The Wipe - Plus 8
04. Orphx - Cut Through - Sonic Groove
05. Claudio Prc - Clear Depths (Silent Servant Remix) - Prologue
06. Truss - Beacon - Our Circular Sound Rec
07. Silent Servant - Lo Profundo - Historia y Violencia
08. Mark E - Oranges (Space Dub) - Spectral Sound
09. Robert Gerressen - Inked Jester (Echologist Dub Remix) - Wolfskuill Rec
10. Brendon Moeller - Wanderer - Electric Deluxe
11. Terence Fixmer - When the Moon - Electric Deluxe
12. Fuse - F.U - Probe Rec
13. Byetone - Opal - Raster Noton
14. Terence Fixmer - When the Earth - Electric Deluxe
15. Donatto Dozzy - Tutto Positivo - MGLTD
16 . Alexey Volkov - Dust - Planete Rouge Rec

edit: Just listened to this one. Gold from start to finish. Fixmer is brilliant. Has that proper electroey techno sound going on. Would probably say he is one of my favourite techno artists at the moment

Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The idea was to create a relentless, captivating, upbeat and danceable mix, which includes the main four musical elements of my DJ sets: My love for melodic techno, my obsession with bass-influenced house and techno, my soft spot for disco and my craving for good vocals. Furthermore the intention was to include older records, which have been favorites of mine over many years and to revive them in a modern context alongside new tracks.

This mix is niiiccee. Proper deep house vibes.

Shifted's was pretty good as well, loving that stripped back industrial techno.

YouTube

So good. Personally I don't care if Kerri's style has changed since the early 90s. Most DJs who have been around for the good part of 20 years change style and direction. And as long as they're still playing good music (and I consider the above to be good music) then they're not doing anything wrong and pretty much just trying to keep it all fresh for themselves as well as the listeners.

The 3 pages of comments on this mix is an interesting read, a few people unhappy - http://www.residentadvisor.net/forum...=196449&page=1

Kerri posts - for folks who don't get the podcast, I love new and old styles of house myself, but I can't stay repeating what I did and played in 1993, I feel so stagnant doing that. and a feel like jukebox. I try to still keep the groove of things I love, and I always keep a very open mind, there are serious soulful places I play like southportweekender, and I see just how far I can go before people start scratching their heads, and vice versa in other places that are a bit more techy. In saying this I have always played music I love, and I make music the same way. If I didn't I would stop today right now, It's all love for me, I have a lot of respect for other people and DJ's views who come to see and hear me, and I hope to continue to do what I love, and for people to enjoy it. Feedback is all always appreciated, it helps me improve. With Love and respect to everyone, Kerri

Got to agree that it didn't reach the heights.

It just felt very bland in that standard/popular-European way as opposed to the rawness I'd associate with a legend of old.

To gain a better understanding I've gone back and listened to Kerri Chandler Live @ GASM, London (Ladbroke Grove) - 1994. Quite the difference in terms of that RA mix, and fyi I do favour this 90s sound in comparison to anything Lee Foss or Burnski etc is releasing these days. Hard to expect artists to not change styles in some way, but I can see how people who know Kerri's back catalogue so well would expect him to be a bit more raw than what the RA mix is like

Edit: In no particular order for the 94 mix -

Earth People - Dance (Beats)
Spirits - Don't Bring Me Down
Andrea Mendez - Bring Me Love
Mondo Grosso - Souffles H (MAW Version)
Static - Dream It (U.S. Rave Mix)
Marshall Jefferson - Move Your Body
Robert Owens - Bring Down The Walls
Arnold Jarvis - Take Some Time Out
Masters at Work -Souffles H
Les Claudettes - Alexandrie Alexandra
Marshall Jefferson Presents Truth - Open Our Eyes
The Back Room - The Definition Of A Track (The Back Room Mix)
Kerri Chandler - Inspiration
Soft House Company - What you need
Inspiration - Arnold Jarvis & the man KC
Definition Of A Track by Precious
siege feat. che - whatchu gonna do (with my love)
Kamasutra – Nightwalk (Dob-Jam Dub)
Ron Trent ‎– I Feel The Rhythm

I can't believe people in any right mind would like that Kerri Chandler mix as a whole. Technically it's a good mix (Kerri is a great DJ no doubt) but the tracks are terrible and it doesn't stand out compared to all the 1000's of other tech house mixes floating around on the net, the ones full of Crosstown Rebels, Hot Natured and Cadenza influenced tunes.

This is meant to be a RA mix and should be on another level and I think if Kerri had played more of what he used to play I think it would've been something special.

Just my 2 cents.

sounds_echoed probably summed up my feelings of the Chandler mix better than I did.

I really liked the Rrose mix. It was a seamless merger of sound scapes, rhythmic ambience (i.e. anchored to a beat) and techno all within what we'd consider the Sandwell District / Prologue ethos.

This is meant to be a RA mix and should be on another level and I think if Kerri had played more of what he used to play I think it would've been something special.

Just my 2 cents.

Did you even listen to the mix? It is pretty much all deep house with maybe 1 or 2 tech house tunes in there. If I was hearing anything similar to Crosstown Rebels/Cadenza, I would have binned the mix about 10mins in.

i agree with him. the only good song is the one at 67 mins. other than that it's a pretty generic set you would hear from any local who follows the latest trends

How and where was the mix recorded?

I don't mind admitting that I was nervous about making this mix. Sometimes you can make promo mixes or mix tapes for fun fairly quickly, and even in one take without too much thought, but this mix was kind of a big deal for me. In all fairness this, with all the travelling I've been doing, which equally inspired and hindered the mix in terms of how long it took to complete. I probably spent about three months on it! This might sound a bit like overkill for a "DJ mix" but I wanted to create something more than that, something personal.

Zabiela sounds like he wasted three months, perplexing stuff.

I didn't realise RA gave artists that long to do a mix. I think it's bit overkill, to spend 3 months on it. I guess with all the travel he does and regular gigs he probably needed that time.
