Unzapped by finding out that the worksite death that happened in Sydney last week was at a family friends/work clients business.

Whilst I feel for the poor employees family etc, I hope that the business don't get too arse raped by the authorities. Let's hope all the OH&S stuff was up to scratch and that it was a purte accident, not due to any form of negligence/non compliance.

Whats it like? I've got a mate that fucking loves planes and I think it would be the ideal job for him but he doesnt really know all that much about it. How hard is it to get into etc? Obviously stresslevels are high due to the fact planes are flying around with 100's of passengers.

having been involved in workcover investigations that's complete shit. They do their job very well from every dealing I've had with them. Where people get prosecuted they usually deserve it. [and no, i don't work for them or know anyone who does]

Safety is a genuine interest of mine in all the industries I've been involved in. When reports like the BP Macondo spill, or local safety fatalities come out I generally read them cover to cover and write an article on them.

No it isn't, although I can see where you're coming from-you had/have some direct involvement and therefore you think you know it all.

okay, I actually didn't mean to fire you up. I am neither telling people on a public forum my roles and experience nor am I entering a pissing contest. I'm also fairly sure I don't know "it all" though.

I would hazard a guess that given the size of the organisation and the fact that it's a government department there are some officious wankers working for workcover, but also that the majority of the staff are well-meaning and have a genuine concern for safety. So you're both wrong, and should kiss and make up

Yeah I love it, definitely not for everyone though. Does take a particular way of thinking/working to be able succeed. Need to be pretty quick with problem solving and calculations, and need to be able to work well with constant interruptions!
It's not as stressful as most people think, it's so procedurally driven that it's harder to actually cause an accident than it is to prevent one. The more stressful aspect is that even little mistakes, while not endangering anyone, can be enough to jeopardise your license.
Application process is pretty lengthy, and from what I've heard it's about 5% that are usually successful. Then the training which is pretty full on and about a 60% success rate.
After that as long as you don't mind shiftwork it's a pretty sweet gig.

^^ tell them next time you order one that it was a pansey chilli pizza.

in my experience restaurants LOVE it when you tell them their signature hot dish isn't nearly hot enough.

went to this old school suburban pizza place where on the hot ones they ask you how hot you want it rated " out of ten", I'm like gimme an 8/10 heat factor and they start carrying on about how i can't handle their 8/10 hotness. truth be told that pizza was way too fuckin hot, im certain they just delight in going overboard on any request 5/10 or over and being able to say " told you so"

I have a system, they enter the limited profile territory, usually after they see no new posts for about 3 months (I don't post much on fb anyway) they get the hint and defriend. Fuck I wish Brisbane wasn't that small that I'll probably run into her on the street at some point though

Biggest hint was on the bus about a week ago, when I was talking about how in 5 years down the track, I want to get into some caving and tech diving and she says "meanwhile I'll be sitting at home worried sick about you" (in 5 years?!? Really?!?!)
