there have definitely been hints in earlier episodes as to how this could have happened but i still wonder whether its intentional to line up for next season.

Same, the book describes that exact White Walker as wearing very ornate armour that was constantly shifting and changing and shimmering light of all different colours, it was something I was really looking forward too see.

I like the GN's interpretation alot more to be honest.
