Trevor Rockcliffe - Metro Theatre, Sunday 10th June
I can't believe the way I found out about this gig was from a street pole poster....been hanging out for this guy for AGES to come down under - can't find anything else on the net.

Oh well, if I have been scammed out of $65 well sucks to be me. If it's true, I'm in for an awesome night of techno!

I can't go back to the metro - move it to hi-fi and maybe + needs another big name maybe Ben Simms, Joey Beltram, Umek, Space djs or someone big in the techno scene

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I highly doubt he will bring a large enough crowd to fill out the Metro.

He's finally coming to Australia? I'm pretty sure I saw him play in Adelaide with Carl Cox in the early/mid 1990s. His name always seemed to follow Carl's around.

Why the Metro? Bit large for this artist alone isn't it? The days of 2000 people turning up to see a single big name in techno there are long gone. Trevor Rockcliffe isn't really a very well known, 'big name' in techno, especially these days, and especially in Sydney.

You know techno legends like Derrick May, and Chris Liebing are playing the cave at Chinese Laundry, that's how small things have gotten for techno in Sydney, and those guys have played here a bunch of times each over the last decade or more.

Also, in what way is Trevor Rockcliffe a pioneer of British techno? Sure he's from way back, and I remember him being an energetic DJ with a funky sound, but I wouldn't say it was that pioneering.

Looking at Discogs...

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Trevor+Rockcliffe

He never released that much music until the 1999-2003 period, and then just added to the funky, tribal, loopy, melodic sound popular at the time. Since then he's only released a couple of EPs up until 2007, and then nothing since? Although seems to be a lot of stuff on Beatport, but a lot seems to be old tracks and EPs released recently digitally.

I've not even heard his name mentioned anywhere from the early 2000s until now, although I stopped following those funky techno sounds around 2004.

In saying all that, I'd probably be keen to check him out, but not at $60+ and not at The Metro, probably standing there with the only other 50 people in Sydney who know of him, and still go out... I wish you all the best with the event anyway.

Certainly seeing your posters around, but not seen any social media hype?

If that is not on a long weekend this is probably one of the weirdest events and listings I have seen .. He used to play trade but I'm not sure Trevor Rockcliffe would have some sort of cult following out here and will pack the place out..

^^ Last I heard from N-Zed he wasn't living in Sydney anymore Though maybe he can be coaxed into it. Biz would tear the shit up before Rockliffe. Not that I dislike Caldwell (dude is boss), but Biz vs N-Zed/Ajax would make so much sense in that old school loopism funk kinda way.

Yes the venue seems a tad big. To be honest i hadn't even heard of him but i love techno from that era and being from the UK i am interested in going as there's rarely any techno of any kind played in Sydney. I think he'd pack out a small club (500) but it might be a bit crappy if that's 500 in the Metro. Maybe as it's a long weekend you might get some extra 'drop in's but they won't help the atmosphere if there just piss heads who are wandering past. He's not that well known i mean i clubbed at Club UK in London and Ministry of Sound frequently in the Mid 90's and didn't ever see or hear about him although i gather he was a Trade DJ but still... Not a 'big' name really. Can't even find any of his mixes anywhere on the web. That indicates he's can't be that well know to not be in some-kind of circulation of old DJ mixes anywhere....

Sorry being more specific Fridays at club Uk London (final frontier) regular dj's there between 94-96 were Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Dave Angel, Jeff Mills, Justin Robertson, Richie Hawton, Laurent Garnier, Gayle San, Dj Dag, Blake Baxter, Chris Liberator, Drum Club, Aphex, Chris Liberator, Mario De Bells, Chris Lierator, Joey Beltram, Commander Tom, Cosmic Baby, Cj Bolland, Westbam, Hardfloor, Fabio Paris, Billy Nasty, Baby Doc, Dave Clarke, Blake Baxter, Luke Slater, Dave the Drummer, Colin Dale and Stacy Pullen. All these guys played there, a lot were regulars. I'm guessing they are mostly 'techno' djs although back then techno and trance were divided by a thin line and often mixed together so that 'sound' as far as i know is hard to find anywhere these days including Sydney. It was great to have a 1000ish capacity club with 3 rooms with these kind of Dj's playing every Friday night. That place was a hedonistic sweat pit of epic proportions... Back to the point though no idea what Trevor Rockcliffe was up to at that time. However i think he'd be well worth checking out and a treat for Sydney to get that wouldn't come along often... They need a different venue for it maybe?

clubuk closed in about 96, and ministry of sound rarely played techno in the 90s after about then anyway, think 97 is when speed garage broke there, and it was just house from then on.

he was heavily connected with jim masters who was an original resident of ministry, but not suprised he didnt play there

carl craig wasn't capacity from all reports, and carl craig is a much bigger name than trevor rockcliffe. I think they have severely overestimated the numbers they get for this, to be able to fill Metro, personally

Turns out it was too good to be true. Show cancelled.

Asked the dude at the Metro box office if they hadn't sold enough tix and I got the "due to unforeseen circumstances" line...
