My flat mates won't let me get a dog so I have to convince them a kitten in a good idea. They all hate cats and one of them said 'if you bring a cat home I'll rip its head off'. How can I convince them a cat is a good idea?

You don't. Why do you have to have a pet? Volunteer at a shelter or something...

any dog is better than a cat, although I am liking cats more than I used to and there are more pictures if them on the nets.

The best bit about cats is the care and attention to detail they put into doing something stupid - ie i'll turn this box and get the flaps open so i can crawl in it and .... overlook the fact said box only half on the table and fall off etc etc. Dogs just run into stuff without thinking and then look confused.

To the OP also point out cats shit and piss in boxes in the corner of a room as opposed to the whole garden or something like a dog does, meaning all the nastiness is contained to one area

I also taught my cat to use the human toilet vs litter so no mess ever, and it's a good party trick.

I think I'd just kick someone out who came home with a pet after the house consensus was no pets allowed.

Cats can be trained very easily. My last two cats have played fetch like a boss, with added insane acrobatics!

My dog slides 2m across the ground.. far more entertaining.

kittens and cats are great when they are snuggly and want tickles and pats.
but dogs are better because they like to play. cats are too aloof.

some asshole left two of them (kittens) in a unit and moved out, my housemate was working at the RSPCA and snapped him up before he made it to a cage. he's rather cute, for a cat.
