throwing a party, need the tunes.
so my mates are throwing a house party. The dancing music doesn't suit there style and they asked me to handle the tunes.

I cant be bothered setting any decks up. Basically looking for any mixes by yourself, artists, friends or whatever that suit a house party environment. That means no hour long hands in the air trance, minimal commercial crap but a lil just to keep the punters happy...

just basically y'know, a good mash up of styles. straying away from girltalk, cause although fun its been done to death. I got a bunch of Diplo mixes, he is alright.. some cringeworthy shit... but mixes things up a bit with various styles. and 2manydjs [but not enough good quality shit]

so yeah, someone give me some direction please?

Set the decks up...any party without a DJ all too quicky turns into drunks girls fighting over whose iPod is going on next, youtube'ing shit quality videos and every song only being played for about 35-50% of its lenght.

Least if you and some mates are DJing, you have control of what is played and when and for how long

I always find Kaskade (more older stuff) goes down alright. Music that appeals to the masses. Not cringeworthy commercial electro, and not underground that people will find it boring.

It's You It's Me, In The Moment, Love Mysterious, Strobelight Seduction have all been albums I've played to friends at house parties who don't have a clue about music and whom enjoyed it.

Maybe it's not the mash up of styles you're after (as a lot of his music sounds the same with the same vocalist) but just a thought..

I don't go to be in the VIP area.. I don't need big breaks, a big song with a buildup and lights and smoke.. all you need is a kickdrum and a good bassline. You don't need any of that other shit. Na, I'm not going for none of those reasons.. I'm just going for the music.

well it will go all night, so any advice is appreciated. party mashups are good to start a night, but as things stretch on i'd like it to get deeper. However I do have a few mixes for when things are buckwild and no one gives a toss for whats being played.
I do have kaskades album 'dynasty' and thought it was average. I'll look into his older stuff.

Yeah kiwi I took this into consideration as too many house parties have been ruined by drunk girls slapping their cruiser stickers to their leggs and trying to conduct the party. However, i thought that burnt CDs could prevent this, or hiding the aux cable at the back where no drunken eyes will realise that they have potential power.

The decks are an hour drive from my house then a further hour drive to the party, and my other option would be to get my friends S4 but I get easily frustrated by it.

Yeah, sometimes setting up decks and what not can be more hassle than it's worth, but in order to keep the music you want playing, you're going to have to hang around the stereo to stop others interferring...CDs only is a good option, "sorry love, no I don't have any way for you to plug in your shit-ass music, move along"

Check out the mix in my signature (blantant self-plug hehe) might be good for early on before people are wanting ruckus music, starts nice and slow, about 104BPM broken beats, funk, soul, disco, deep house, funk-breaks, house working its way up to about 123BPM at the end. Nice mellow listening, background sounds...lounge bar music, of sorts.

lately when i have people over i have been loving my laptop plugged into my system (laptop closed and out the way)

and then i just browse and control the tunage through itunes using the Remote app on my iphone

if we are sitting down eating outside i might get the Remote app up on my ipad and have it in the centre of the table so guests can navigate my itunes library and select songs too

although being a dj i like to have control over the tunage so usually go for the iphone in my pocket

I do this at all parties that are too small for a dj.. so quick and easy when paired with a powered speaker placed on some high furniture

airport express can be picked up for less than $100 for multiroom setup with one source (macbook or any laptop, which can then be controlled by iOS device)
