As far as Barbera goes, this is about as nice as I've had in the last couple of years. It's a whole lot of wine for the price. Not sure if there's much of it still around but it's a cracking bottle of wine if you can find it. From King Valley.

I had another Barbera from the King Valley at a restaurant here taht was delicious and only about $20 a bottle but I've completely forgotten the name of the winery.

Cool story Bro.

had the same experience. looks nice, but after scanning a bottle, it just crashes when searching. too bad.

did find a nice French wine app that lists out the regions and varieties and vintages. i'll test it tomorrow to see if I can find my French wines on it.

Tried a bottle of that 2007 St Henri last night. Not sure how it compares with the other vintages but was pretty, pretty good.

Paxtons was reasonably civilised, wirra wirra got pretty messy at the end.

wirra have a new label out for their spanish varieties, not bad, but at $35 a pop while i drank them there (due to hating most of their range) i won't be buying again.

Forgot to mention...Apparently a few wineries in the hills have started a continuous picnic which I think I'll be at next year.

yeah, that's been on a few years now. I prefer the continuous picnic over sea and vines, because the picnic people are my McLaren Vale homies -> James from Lazy Ballerina and Bec and Richard from K1 by the Hardys. All they need to is coerce Justin from AB&D and Joch from Battle of Bosworth and it'd be super awesome. There is a back road from Kuitpo straight down to Bosworth, but AB&D are a little too central methinks.

I had a bad feeling ever since I received the tweet or FB from Justin about not opening on the weekend with 5 people saying underneath what a good idea it was and they were avoiding S&V like the plague. It's a great concept, just seems over-run with young tools.

the idea of the buses is great too, it would have been quite nice to have a degustation style with your tickets entitling you to a glass and a small meal then off to the next winery.

so much fine slutty tail though... and by the end of the day i think pointing and smiling would have been enough to pick up. (pity I was with the girl I'm seeing though )

they're not great with Australian wines. but you can just take the photo and wait the few days or insert the details yourself.

its' not the most intuitive but it's the best I've had once you get the hang of it.

yet to try a decent Australian Zinfandel ... the Californians have got that variety sewn up, especially the stuff from around Paso Robles and Santa Ynez

friend is choosing between the below 2 wineries for another vintage. Can't wait for her to start shipping cheap great californian wine to me.

http://www.provenancevineyards.com
http://www.quintessa.com

can't remember which is which but one offers a proper internship the other is supposed to be a top notch goon.

Interesting...I wonder what the health of the NZ wine industry is like at the moment....are they having the same problems we are?

St Henri on the Fo again if people interested.

went to Fino in Mclaren Vale for lunch ... best sausage and best rice I've ever had ... I know, big call.

Anyway, stopped by Alpha Box and Dice on the way home, and Justin gave us a vertical tasting of his back vintage sangiovese, shiriaz and barbera. Great, picked up a few of various vintages.

Also scored 6 bottles of the 2006 Hercules Shiraz (~$60 per bottle, Rhone style) which is not for sale ... #winning

I've asked them to put a bottle of the 2004 blood of Jupiter aside... picking up tomorrow

his wine is getting splashed all across Adelaide at the moment, fucking ridiculous.

also had a mad drunk chat with the owner of press last night. I think we got a 20% discount of our next meal (memory is hazy)

Man do I love suckling pig...I really need to get over to SA soon to get my food on.

Last Mofo secret deal turned out to be 2008 De Bortoli Estate Grown Shiraz Viognier...Pretty happy with that at $16 a bottle.

So last night I cracked my last bottle of the 2004 Katnook The Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon. SOOO good!
The tannin had softened up just enough. Earlier tastings had a real jamminess on the palate which was a lot more subtle this time round!
YUMMMMM. Shared with friends with a lamb roast

Bracko, I'm pretty sure that the GSM is the Pertaringa http://www.pertaringa.com.au/Our-Wines/GSM.aspx

Never tried it so can't comment on how good it is.

I do have some Pertaringa 'Understudy' Cabernet Petit Verdot 2007 in the cellar though. That's a nice drop if you come across it. I paid about $17 a bottle from DM I think.

I've had a good amount of that [the GSM]... 1x in a mystery box and a straight 6... it's good stuff. although it's a bit strange they're flogging it on a discount site if the winery has "sold out"...

I might check out dbb's suggestion though, it's been a while since I've had a merlot that doesn't make me recal that sideways scene.

edit: todays NZ sem-sav if it's the same one they've done before at $8 is a bargin. not really a winter wine, but I was smashing this during summer and while a bit embarrassed to pull out a cleanskin at a BBQ it was well received every time. it's easily a $16-$22 bottle if malborough whites are you thing.

I bought 6 of each for good measure. The shariz is great, even out of a plastic cup at my new house.

There's the odd thing now, but mostly because they're still with that maker from early days. Geoff Merrill stuff is okay as is the gsm above and the clearskin, all of which have been on there before the cotd takeover.

I think I'll unsubscribe this week since I'm going on leave and don't need the junk, doubt I'll re-sign.
