SCR009 - Sceptic & Dseeva - Sub C Baby Mixtape (June 26th 2010 - Free download @ http://www.subc.com.au)

Self confessed addicts of rap Sceptic & Dseeva are the frontmen of Sydney's KWITS Crew and founders of Sub Conscious Records. Their impressive catalogue of Psykotik Realm Rap indulges in an array of styles to suite any mood; from their well known strut mentality, obscure sound and topical choices, to revealing their heart-felt emotions and insecurities.

Sceptic & Dseeva recieved local love with their debut Hip Hop Psykosis LP in 2007, acquiring rave reviews and radio-play nationwide. Consistent energetic shows and presence on Sub Conscious Records releases and Sydney compilations (including Bring It! with the legendary Sereck and Lightsounds' Circuit Breaker 2), has confirmed Sceptic & Dseeva to be "definitely ones to watch in the near future". The duo gained international recognition featuring on Grimz' Global Warning LP (UK) and Krhyme Syndicate's The Lyrical Suspectz LP (Canada).

The rhythmic wraith of 2010's jam-packed Sub C Baby Mixtape sees Sceptic & Dseeva sending shockwaves sonically through 26 tracks, over production by Dseeva, Myth 4 and Scott Mackie, with cuts by DJ Skae. The duo takes jabs at Australia's lucrative legal system on "Mugshots"; spit an ode to Sydney's Kings Cross with "Born To Roll" and remake 50 Cent's "I'm Supposed To Die Tonight" with the catchy "Down To Strut". "Sound The Alarm" encourages listeners for some call and response; with all opposers being silenced on 21-man posse madness "Shut Ya Mouth (Ft. Sub C Familia)".

The duo repeadately follow the mantra of being "as crazily disconnected as Kool Keith" on the Sub C Baby Mixtape. Sceptic leaks liquid lyricism with palindrome packed "Add A", oxeymoron filled "The Meaning" and a tribute to Big L's "Ebonics" with the tongue twisting "Slanging AAK47SUBC Strut 08 Acapella". Dseeva displays determination on "Reign Supreme", bi-polar-like attitude on "Not Today" and jokingly admits to his alcoholism on "Alko Stats". Sceptic is joined by the soleful Toni Bird for the passionate "One More Night With You" and Dseeva attacks egotistical rappers over Snoop Dogg's "Lay Low".

Jezzalenko - "Side Exit" Mixtape
A selection of my beats from 2007-2010. Most are the original versions, laid out like songs, not really backing tracks for MC's..but fucking Hip Hop none the less. The range of moods on this mix is just a small example.

No record remains unturned - Lesbian film soundtracks, Latvian TV scores, Honky Tonk Piano, Dept of Egyptian Antiquities..
Every sound you will hear is from a piece of vinyl I have dug physically or from my synthesizer.

"Side Exit" Mix Dec 2010

"Preparation is the key! The route is to be known, just as well the clauses written into it... A well executed plan can be betrayed by reality. Know your side exits.."

Good mix tapes like JS-1 or Prince Paul, I say rip off because it sounds like drunk Aussie teenagers trying to freestyle over well known beats.
And if you want to get technical smart ass, it was posted as

So a new mix tape with 10 not so new tracks, they are downloaded as individual tracks not as a mixtape, you haven't heard it but it's pretty common for your mom to take it itb.

That's so uselessly negative, man. Okay. So taste is taste. But at least leave the negativity out. I'm a huge fan of Hip Hop and I really dig this artist. His voice, of course, isn't the deep, thick voice we all love in a lot of hip-hop, but then again neither is Eminem's...actually I could name quite a few artists in Hip Hop whose rhymes and beats are dope but whose voices are out of the ordinary. There's nothing wrong with it. I absolutely welcome it.

Just leave it out, mate.

Peace, ng

Haven't seen a lot of NZ hip hop on here.

Here is a 30 minute mix of assorted NZ trax I initially put together for a friend who had never heard of beats from the land of the long white cloud. When Dawn Raid Entertainment finally became an entity, and the Deceptikonz released their Elimination album in 2002, it looked like kiwi hip hop had finally got its act together and could support the crews who were putting out some very tasty hip hop.

But it was a false dawn and everything turned, if not to shit, a pretty depressing slide into mediocrity. Bubblegum club banger hip hop flooded the scene, and instead of showcasing a unique Aotearoa hip hop style, the new found fame was instead harnessed to release American-style swagger-filled hook fests, and collaborations with such luminaries as Akon. I don't exactly blame them, they don't exist to satisy my desire for inventive hip hop, it's a job and they need an income, so pandering to a broad market made sense, I just thought a lot more of the fresher stuff would get a wider audience and chance to be heard internationally, and prove to up and comers in NZ that you can put out creative tracks and get paid.

So this mix is to highlight some old skool NZ hip hop from the golden era. No Scribe and no party jams, just sections of Mcs with flow. From the godfathers of Kiwi hip hop Dam Native whose trax still sound smoking more than 20 years later, to Innovators like Che Fu and King Kapisi to the Deceptikonz who finally took underground hip hop to the masses.

I always thought that kiwi producers were under-rated, the beats have always been high quality across the board, and when combined with the few crews that were prepared to chance their arm lyrically, the product was extremely solid. Looking back to King Kapisi and his quite intricate phrasing, sacrificing head-nodability for verses that demanded some mental fitness from listeners, it's amazing that an album like Savage Thoughts even got a release, without even considering the experimental beat-making.

False Dawn Mix:

0:00 - Behold My Kool Style (Dam Native)
2:00 - Horrified One (Dam Native)
3:10 - Hating Game (Hamofide)
4:05 - Lonely Skies (Dubious Brothers)
5:30 - Fallen Angels (Deceptikonz)
8:00 - Verbal Assault (Ill semantics)
9:00 - Flaxmat Theory (Che Fu)
9:50 - First Course (Deceptikonz)
11:10 - Da Ula (King Kapasi)
13:00 - Beware (Deceptikonz)
16:00 - Screams From Da Old Plantation (King Kapasi)
17:00 - Da Mish II (Che Fu)
18:00 - Elimination (Deceptikonz)
21:30 - Brainfighta (Che Fu)
22:00 - Reverse Resistance (King Kapisi)
24:00 - Chains (Che Fu and DLT)

hey there guys,
this is one of my first posts on this forum so you guys might be yelling spammer, but I would really love to hear some feedback on a project that's just been completed.

It's sort of like Drake, but a bit more spacey and instrumental. Yeah if you could please give your honest opinons on this one, me and the beatmaker would love to hear.

Just search akimusic in bandcamp or soundcloud. akimusic.bandcamp com and soundcloud com / akimusic

sorry I can't post links!

Thanks in advance

DJ RETURN - A MESSAGE FROM THE EIGHTIES

This mix tries to capture a certain mood in the early 80s. All of these tracks tell a story of hard times, of struggle against racism, unemployment, poverty, drug addiction, urban life, Reaganism and violence. But most importantly they also say “there has got to be a better way”

Many of these songs look to the future, some are afraid that there is worse to come, while others view computers and technology as a positive way forward. However, the overarching message is that change is possible, especially if you take the initiative.

Stay in school, get a job, vote, save your money and say no to drugs!!

1. T.S.G – You Should Know To Say No [Jump Back 198?]

Not sure if this will be everyone's taste. Check out this Free EP though if you're keen to hear some new local stuff from Melbourne. It's called 'Wall Street' by Ry. Download Link below.

The hiphop Mix thread
I've n listening to this at the moment. It's not strictly hiphop but there's some groovey trip hop in there. Funky as fuck though.

Its on soundcloud - The Martinez Brothers WARHOL*BASQUIAT*2

Have a look 4 the 1992 Mr. Scruff hiphop tape aswell.
