Luck is a U.S. television series starring Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte. Michael Mann directed the pilot episode, which is based on a screenplay by David Milch. The series premiered on December 11, 2011.

Says in the wiki link that dennis farina is in it it too. Sounds interesting, hopefully Mann doesnt have too much involvement in it as his movies have been boring of late.

I hope Hoffman mumbles a lot and Nolte growls a lot.

Decent first ep. Milch loves to throw you right in the deep end.

i like michael mann, but he has a habit of making the dialogue hard to follow unless your exposed to that world/industry in your own personal life. viewers attention drifts elsewhere quickly if they cant follow what they hell the characters are going on about

i understand that thats his style and its maybe fine for a movie as you can watch it again and try and piece together what they are going on about the second time round....but i dont think it'll work for a weekly series

Well he didn't write this. But your point is valid for Milch. He throws you right into the deep end. I like that though. I love the 'get with it or get fucked' style.

Yep, Mann has been serving out big steaming bowls of average lately. Public Enemies was so fucking boring, Miami Vice started off pretty well then became a stinky-turd until right at the end, and Collateral dies 3/4s of the way through.

He needs to lift his motherfucking game because he's besmirching the rep he earned from Heat and The Insider which were both qualitay.

It took me to episode 5 to realise how much I really love this show.

great show, love the hbo-inspired first episode guide...some seriously detailed background knowledge required!

Wait, what? It was only last week that I worked out Nolte was a trainer. And a random web review told me Richard Kind was a jockey agent. I need to see this guide!

This show had a lot of promise, and was moving at a steady pace to build up over a few seasons.

i had read this thread and downloaded all the episodes, spent the last couple of days watching them all to get up to date

ABSOLUTELY LOVED every minute of it

then come in here to find out its been cancelled

makes me wonder if it was an australian series on SBS if it would have lasted

Was not the same vibe watching this weeks episode...

^ well yeah, i knew watching the latest ep last night that it had been cancelled and it certainly affected my mood during the show, mainly because it was a kick arse episode and it made me sad that such a good show wont continue

i have loved hoffman in this role too ...

i spent most of the episode wondering how they will tie it off now, or will they keep it kind of open in hope of the show getting a resurrection (highly unlikely)

Final episode would have been filmed long ago. So I reckon it's going to be left way open.

Sucks. TV needs more evil Gambon!

Been getting into this, about 3 or 4 episodes in and it's killing me how much Dustin's making us/me/one guess.
