It has been 3 long years since Paul Oakenfold last graced our shores for the Future Music Festival back in 2009. In that time Paul has been extremely busy; having partnered his widely respected Perfecto label with Armin Van Buuren’s almighty Armada Music, the label has gone from strength to strength and continues to be at the forefront of electronic music boasting a continuous stream of successful new releases. Paul’s globally syndicated radio show Planet Perfecto is now aired in over 40 countries every week and has quickly amassed a legion of loyal fans worldwide. Paul has also returned to the DJ circuit in a big way with a non stop schedule of over 200 shows in 2012 – with appearances at some of the largest and most respect events and festivals across the world.
His highly acclaimed Four Seasons tour and album concept, which embraces a cutting edge visual show fused with Paul’s Full On Fluoro sound has recaptured the imaginations of fans new and old worldwide.

We're fast losing venues in Melbs that's for sure. Especially for larger gigs for more than 1500 punters.

^^^Fantastic mix!!!
I really loved Oakey when I first got into trance in the 90's, then I finally get a chance to see him, but it's on main stage at FMF 08 and I'm thinking, nah he'll be all commercial and shit, but I'll go over to check him out for a bit and he was exactly like that above video. Trainwrecks, poor song choice (played one track twice), best thing about his set was it finishing. All I knew is I wanted to try what he was on that day
Then, early 2011 I heard a few of his new productions and thought, wow ok maybe he's got off the drugs and making a comeback. Then a mate said check out his podcast so I do and it was pretty wicked and finally this
Bring on his show in October.
It's nice to finally see him back and doing what we know he does best. His career reminds me of the fictional career of Frankie Wild in It's All Gone Pete Tong

“I am focused on DJing and making music this year,” Perfecto boss Paul Oakenfold has said, and his worldwide tour will bring him to Australia in Spring. Part of that renewed focus on DJing led Oakey back to the BBC Radio 1 studio to helm his first Essential Mix in five years over the weekend. Despite the long break, he was the second name ever to record an Essential Mix back in 1993 and was the show’s resident DJ in 1999. The Goa set that he created for the show in 1994 is described by Pete Tong as “perhaps the most famous Essential Mix of them all”, capturing a moment in time (inthemix recently heard Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant quoting it as his introduction to dance music). Oakey’s new two-hour session is titled ‘Fluorescence’, inspired by the sound of his offshoot label Perfecto Fluoro.
“I wanted to make something really special for you guys – to take you on a real journey – and this mix is it,” Oakey writes. “It’s been a few months work to put it together and it’s packed with not only great melodic music but also samples from film, radio, speech and other audio sources. I hope you are going to like it and enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.” The tracklist includes a string of familiar names and lesser-known talents, with Melbourne’s own Ahmet Atasever represented.
Perfecto Fluoro figurehead John Askew recently took to his Facebook page to big-up his boss’s effort. “Sitting in the Perfecto office listening to Paul Oakenfold’s Essential Mix,” Askew wrote. “He’s called it ‘Fluorescence’, and I have to say – it’s incredible. Proper trance. Proper Goa. Proper psy. Proper breaks. It’s just fucking cool and fucking proper.” You can give it a “proper” listen over at the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix site, or hit play on the SOundcloud embed below.
