JovanS:

There are two main supporter groups (i.e. travel agencies) that will be allocated tickets - the Green and Gold Army, and the Fanatics. I think the FFA and Fox Sports also get allocations.

Unsure about GGA, but as the Fanatics have been appointed a participating tour operator for the World Cup, they can no longer sell tickets only, but have to provide them as part of a complete package with flights, accommodation and food.

If you travel with them, you will most like be shacked up in a camp-site on the outskirts of the city. Security at such sites is high, and in that regard your interaction will be nearly always with Australians.

If you want to see Italy play, fancy hanging around people of other nationalities, or just generally don't want to be ripped off by a bunch of opportunist wankers, then I recommend exploring other options.

Insofar as obtaining match tickets, the federations of each participating country get a share of tickets other than those allocated to participating tour operators - somewhere in the range of 50% of each country's allocation. These are then thrown in a ballot. Note, for each game, only 25% of the seating is allocated to each country - the other 50% goes to sponsors etc.

Sorry but I'm not too sure how you would go about obtaining tickets to Italian games.

Hope that helps.

Thanks niccko.
As I said, we have signed up with other tour groups, including a UK based one.

A person in the fanatics forum wrote about his South Africa tour. He attended 9 games in total, going through the fanatics packages, so it's possible.

Will wait for each company to email me package information & go from their.

Must say, me & my mate are extremely pumped already & have so long to wait still lol. Will be an amazing experience spending 2 weeks in Brazil, then Miami/Las Vegas & finishing the trip in Hawaii.

Yeh unfortunately if you want to be 100% sure of obtaining match tickets, then going through one of the tour groups is probably your best bet.

Feedback from friends that were in Germany/South Africa is that it's a much better experience doing your own thing - simple things like being able to interact with people from all over the globe, as opposed to being locked up in a compound with nothing but Australians, are the best part about such events.

My manager from work is heading over to brazil in about august/sept next year and getting a year long lease in an apartment in sao paulo. Will probably go crash on his couch and a few of his friends around the place and try to get tickets myself for it.

Sometimes I wonder Dero. Cause a real soccer fan wouldn't have moved to this backwater wasteland listening to some qld bogan shit on about Chelsea FC when he prob hasn't even left his state let alone visit London.

I heard many good things about the Fox Sports tour in 2010 from a few workmates. Plus you get to get nailed with Bozza.

Re: Belgiums odds.
Sure they have a good squad, bu they haven't made the Euro's since 2000, and they only made that because they were co-hosts.
They haven't made a WC since 2002 (2nd round).

But in the Olympics, which is an Under 23 competition, they came 4th in 2008.
I'm conflicted.

Might put money on them not getting in, depending what's going. I'd like to see them get there though.

their best striker is lukaku. and their goalkeeper is simone mignolet.

it doesn't matter if your winger is eden hazard, if your striker is lukaku you won't score anything.

it doesn't matter if your defender is thomas vermaelen, if your goalkeeper is simone mignolet you will concede everything.

True about Lukaku, but I wouldn't say Mignolet has the no. 1 spot secured.

Thibaut Courtois has his own spot at Athletico Madrid. which will make a really interesting battle.
And Lukaku is very young - he should've been loaned out this year, not being a benchwarmer.A season at Werder Bremen will do him well.

And TV isn't their best, VC is. And you have van Buyten as well.

What you're actually doing is trying to provoke a response that it's clear as daylight you won't agree with anyway...

There is no "official" definition, as you know. If you want to argue conjecture and semantics then be my guest, but I don't think anyone but you is bothering

Yes Midian the definition of a Soccer fan is subjective.

making blanket statements that ALL fanatics are as stupid as each other is hilarious.

Dero, give it a rest. I've experienced the jolly Fanatics at other occasions aside from football and the herd of blerts deserve their reputation. In many ways, the way they attach themselves to any Australian sporting escapade and bellow mindnumbing encouragement smacks of acute jingoism. Aussie uber alles, no matter what the event?

Such a liberal and worldly wise man as yourself would surely realise this?

Added to which these cnuts get dibs on the tickets that independent travellers and fans (with more than a cursory interest in the game, unlike said Fanatics) struggle to get hold of.

Consider this... if you were a fan who has an understanding of the game, why on earth would you sign up with the Fanatics?

(Definition of a fan: not some couch bound warrior, who thinks flicking on Fox Sports in the early hours equals lifelong commitment and some sort of kinky birthright)

I'm from Tasmania, football (soccer) was for wogs and poofters for a good long while for me.

I still think the fanatics are the worst kind of jingoistic ****s and I don't like them at the cricket either.

Again its all subjective.

You asked for an opinion on the definition, I gave you one, no need to get all Dame Edna on me...

World Cup Brasil 2014
Glad to have found this forum! Been searching for ever for any groups/discussion boards for those who plan on taking the trip to the World Cup in Brasil- not a lot of them out there, nothing on Facebook, and the Fifa official site isn't all that helpful either. I am interested in what others have planned for places to stay, match tickets, transportation, food, drink, cost etc. The info about the camp sites on outskirts of the city is very interesting; had no idea about that. Any info or a point in the right direction would be helpful, thanks. Hope to see lots of football fans in Brasil!

Oh and I read someone is going to Brazil, Vegas, then Hawaii, wow! That will be the trip of a lifetime!

99% certain ill be heading over for 2014, provided i can secure tickets to at least a couple of the aussie games. had no idea about this fanatics group but would rather just go with a big group of mates and all cough up as much cash as possible to get a nice villa or something to accomodate us all.

i had a look at the map of the stadiums for 2014 and they seem spread out all over the joint, has anyone been to brazil before, whats transport like? im assuming hire cars/vans or even car services are available? rail system/buses etc?

Would it be cheaper to lease a place out for a month? Just like a townhouse, or a flat?

Even after your team is gone from the comp, you can still experience Brasil in all it's glory.

Probably not because the rent will be jacked up to crazy levels. Unless you get in 6 to 9 months before it and want to live in the area which is what I will try to aim for. More likel for 6 months for me than the 9

I'll be ashamed if FIFA haven't got their act together and brought in GLT by 2014 - they're trialling it already, so it should go through, but if Sepp-fucking-Blatter is still there in 2 years, anything could happen.

We have not booked anything, as it's pointless due to tickets not being on sale yet.
But we have gotten some info back from some sports tour groups.

Basically seems as you will be able to pick a package, including accommodation (3-5 star rating) match tickets (multiple matches is available, not only AUS games either), transfers between cities if required for games & obviously airfares.

Looks as though we will book our own flights, so just get a tour package for game tickets & accommodation. We were given a rough estimate of between $3k-8k. We plan on staying in a hotel. Whether we go with The Fanatics, or one of the other tour groups I guess comes down to the packages & what suits us best.

That is me.
