I think it is fair to say Oakenfold is back in the trance scene in a big way and I am sure there will be a lot of people excited about this, just like we are.

True I was a little blunt. I am a trance head myself. Not dead but definitely dying.

Those gigs you mention were the norm all the time from 2002-2008 plus the big trance prominent festivals like GK, gatecrasher, Slinky, Two tribes, Welcome parties, WSS, White party, numerous QBH/Metro gigs, armin main stage summadayze 2005 (what a set that was!) and more no doubt.

Its not the main arena attraction at the festivals, or is a rarity for main arena. Will be side rooms, club gigs/dj tours. Big trance only events seem to gone. The topic of trance dying has come up so many times on inthemix over the past 5-8yrs and everytime I read it I failed to understand how that conclusion was drawn. For the first time last year I started to believe it and this year reaffirms it again unfortunately.

i think i'll have to disagree with you on this one mattpolo. oakenfold lost his shit for a while but (i suspect with a large amount of help from askew) he has started to do some great things again with his label, sets and productions. i'm keen to see what he has to offer, and that's coming from someone who has pretty much completely jumped ship from trance to techno.

EXHIBIT A:

Media Player
Paul Oakenfold - Full Moon Party (Original Mix) - YouTube

i'm sure others who have been paying more attention to trance than i have recently will have better examples to support my argument.

to add to that, i don't know what i would do if askew was announced as an addition to the lineup alongside oakenfold, but it would be outrageous.

Won't be Protoculture, he's in Aus in November for the Eclipse.

Oakenfold is 'back' in a way. Playing a pretty big range of sounds across trance. Perfecto Fluoro the most credible mainstream trance label there is right now. If you don't like what he's doing and listen to the ASOT crew you need to accept you prefer pop to trance.

No. I'd only go if I was going to see 2 acts. I wouldn't be going for oaky.

Good to hear protoculture will be out but.

yeah sorry also disagree mattpolo, oakey is back in a big way. really excited about this!

protoculture will be out for eclipse but he will probably be playing "retrospective" but after strawberry fields that could be anything.

Yaaaaaaah, sorry mattpolo, this one's something you're on your own with I think!

Oakey's back (thanks Askew!) and his productions, label and podcast are fkn solid as shit. He's just not the same Oakey that was around in the 90's or early 00's... but then again, who is the same as 10+ years ago?

Shame I wont be here for this tour, it's the one show I'd absolutely go to above all else and I'm sure it'll be monsterous.

Yeh bro, feelin it hardcore. There is just nothing better than rocking out to heavenly bangin trance, but the chance only comes round every few months, and its not anywhere near the standard of the era we missed. Cosmic was good (despite the majik crowd - "who the fuck are these guys" "omg how do you dance to this music" "ew, that last song gave me a headache"), creamfields was good, Group Therapy at Festival Hall was good (mainly cos Jaytech is a boss) but thats about the extent of what ive been able to enjoy since i turned 18.

The worst part is that i know that there are good artists coming to play every few weeks, but theyre all at fucking r00m.. hate that place. Ive seen crackdens that give off better vibes than that muzz infested hellhole.
