For some reason I was expecting B-Grade chop-socky, but production values are impressively high and it looks like it might actually be pretty decent...

I love that, an unashamedly b-grade movie full of wanton violence and deliberate stereotypes and you are paying out on the acting. I'm sure they were hanging out for the best lead Oscar, Einstein. Next you'll be telling us the fight scenes were too unrealistic.

its not the kind of movie you watch for the dramatic story telling... so just go in and enjoy

By splashing Tarantinos name all over this there is a certain level of acting you would expect. For folks who wouldnt make the conclusion that this isnt a directTarantino movie they would perhaps expect high quality straight man acting like Reservoir Dogs or maybe some tounge in cheek shit like Kill Bill.

For those who understand he isnt the driving force behind the movie could or would expect a Dusk till Dawn Clooney esque performance.

Maybe, and I stress maybe, Crowe could deliver the type of enjoyable performance you would expect from a movie with Tarantinos involvment but I highly doubt Liu can.

No one expects an Oscar worthy performance but the bar is set quite high by his previous movies.

Also, eat a dick.

That was by far the worst music i've heard on in a movie trailer. It was almost impressively bad.

^ i thought the OST was pretty good

so has anyone caught this yet? going by the reviews on metacritic the kung fu is great, everything else... not so much

yeah saw this last night. i can't say i'm completely in the know with old martial arts movies, but i was entertained. the story is confusing in parts. i mainly watched cos a friend of a friend was in it. action scenes were sweet. soundtrack was cool.
maybe a bit too much going on, but russell crowe was surprisingly good, if a bit hammy.

the way I see it... Kill Bill was sort of Tarantino's 'look at me I'm a fucking Hollywood celebrity, bitches' movie. Look at the opening credits

so that being said, he was probably looking for some star power for that role, and there's not really a whole stack of young Asian American female actors in Hollywood. I stress, young, Asian, and with Hollywood star power


Also, RZA has been a hero of mine for like 20 years now, but this movie looks pretty gash, at least the non kung fu parts. Maybe there's heaps of subliminal references to classic kung fu films or something, but I've only seen like 3 bruce lee films, 3 jackie chan films and that's it

saw this last night. as expected it was pretty cliched and the plot subservient to the action. the action itself got a bit over the top at times, without much of the satisfying sequences in traditional kung fu flicks.

the acting was pretty camp, but at the same time delivered numerous funny moments, eliciting irl lols from the cinema crowd. i also thought rusty was great. him and liu carry this movie. she will forever be typecast in these roles now but there really isn't anyone better..

overall i'd recommend rza stick to the studio. he might get another shot at directing, but if that's the case he should stay behind the camera.
