Thumbtacks? Are you kidding me? What a scumbag thing to do. The worst part is the culprit will never be found. Such a shame because Cadel himself has suggested it was most likely the Spanish with his comments about no longer riding there. Add to that the lead group weren't affected and a Spaniard won the stage and its not a good look for Spanish fans.

I was too broken to stay up and watch last night. Will have to catch the highlights this evening to catch up on how it went down. It's nice to see the other riders slow down to allow those hit by the foul play to rejoin the race. It's one of the things I like about professional cycling.

They believe that the rider who broke his collarbone in that last stage may have lost bike control due to the tacks. It's bad enough accidents happen, but to intentionally cause potential damage to that many riders who were heading downhill soon after. They were lucky a broken collarbone was the most serious consequence.

High drama! If it turns out that Rolland was aware of Cadel's misfortune (which it seems he might have because the go slow started before his attack) then he is gonna have a nasty last week of the tour.

well in the post coverage the sbs guys quoted sagan as referring to him as 'the black sheep of le tour'

sagan was a monster on that 2nd cat 1, very mature riding by falling just that little bit off then smashing them in the final part of the climb. surprised he didn't chase for the win, but it looked like he was having a bite to eat when sanchez attacked. solid effort by sanchez to pull that gap so quickly too.

got excited when cadel hit the go pedal at the start of the steep bit, but it doesn't really look like it's possible to pull a gap when it's that steep, you just can't go much faster than the guys around you.

and as mentioned, dog act whoever threw tacks on the ground. very lucky a broken collarbone was the only injury. awesome sportsman ship by all bar 1, great display of respect; perhaps the spectators can follow suit.

I think that Rolland eventually sat up, probably only after being told by his team car that he either had to or he would be castrated later. He definitely raced off on purpose, there was discussion before that and you could see the disgust of other riders when he rode off. Worse thing is the broken collarbone of the Astana rider (Kiserlovsky?). But well done by Wiggins to control the peloton into waiting for Evans. That along with his sporting gesture to Nibali the other night after the finish is starting to win me over...

Still two massive stages to go though, if Wiggins cracks on one it will be easy as to put minutes into him. Incident last night might be what Cadel needs to fuel his 'him against the world' mentality.

Lucky tonight is flat and tomorrow a rest day so a couple early nights coming up before Wed and Thurs.

Yeah Evans need to have another moment (or two) of one of the mountain stages from last year where he hauled the peloton up the mountain by himself.
