The Kouligas mix is really great. Have not been listening to a lot of this sort of stuff recently, nice to have something a bit more down tempo.
Was downloading the TANSTAFL radio shows but they seem to be on a hiatus.

Im saving the PVH one for a long run. His Smoke Machine podcast last year was my NO.1 running soundtrack.

So are you guys still going to pontificate al things techno on the blog, or has the ssgs thing folded completely?
Need more spoon feeding.

Thanks Chris. It was an invaluable contribution to the world of music. Like Sandwell, bowing out at the peak of your powers.. :-)

I'm just listening to the Morphosis mix for the first time (at work). Head melting. Stunning stuff.

When you read the comments posted on the blog it is clear you guys have had a profoundly positive effect on people from all over the globe.

The time and effort that you guys have put into your posts (which were never a dull read) and curating the mixes really shows. So much music these days is presented as a product, it was nice to see music presented as an artistic medium.

Doing all this whilst tending to your day to day lives would have been no mean feat, so thanks again for all the hard work.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

thanks for the kind words. it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. but yes, it has also taken a HUGE amount of time, and now rest is needed. hoping to get back into doing something in 2013, expecting the inspiration to come after a break.

weird - i really just started off doing nothing besides posting on ITM, so it was a very good exercise in discovering what is possible.

All the best in your future endeavours Chris. On the whole, the blog has been a very interesting read, exploring deeper into the culture, values and opinions of the EDM scene that we love (and can sometimes dislike). A lot of the music/mixes presented has certainly changed my perspective and tastes in EDM for the better. It has introduced me to Dozzy, PVH, Ancient Methods, Oni Ayhun - OAR003-B, Labyrinth and the lists goes on.

Upon multiple full listens of the final mix by PVH, it really is the perfect way to end the blog and is a wonderful artifact about what I believe mnmlssgs has presented from a musical standpoint. It effortlessly flows between glorious house jams, detroit techno classics, the berghain sound then deep into headfuck territory towards the end. Excellent stuff.

Can anyone spot the track in PvH pt. II that's playing at 92 mins? I've heard Dozzy play it before, really dark and mysterious. Fucking love this track.

Some beautiful comments from many people on the last post of the blog

I don't go to be in the VIP area.. I don't need big breaks, a big song with a buildup and lights and smoke.. all you need is a kickdrum and a good bassline. You don't need any of that other shit. Na, I'm not going for none of those reasons.. I'm just going for the music.

mix archive
we are still working on the transition to the new official.fm and we also want to find a good backup location for archiving all of our mixes so they are freely available to download. in the meantime, i have quickly put together a playlist through the new official.fm site. you can find it here:

mnml ssgs mixes archive

the mixes are not in order, and to download them, you need to go to the one you want, click on the arrow on the right, and then you should be taken to the page for just that mix and a download option will be available.

i'll update this thread when we have the time to work out a better solution. and if anyone has any good recommendations for places where we can backup all of our mixes for free so they are available for download, please let me know.

PVH set pt2 track at 20.30 big respect on dropping that. Proper rave, huge tune way back when.

Reminds me of many a morning in smoke filled warehouses.

Such a great set. So varied.

Finally got a chance to listen to PVH's mix which finishes the fnl series the and blog. I cannot speak highly enough of what PVH created. Outstanding in so many ways. Flawless mixing, diverse and unbelievable selection of tracks. So many track IDs I'd love to know, but I'm not gonna get caught up in that and just keep listening over and over again. Going to get many repeat listens. After reading all the words behind the mix and understanding the context that it was played in, I think some of the magic has carried over

"Often live recordings fail to do justice to what actually happened. But sometimes, just sometimes, the magic carries over."

very glad to hear your thoughts on the mix and that some of the feeling does carry over. bit hard for me to tell because it is a set i have a very close personal attachment to. looking forward to hearing what PVH does at labyrinth this year, he's debuting a hybrid DJ/live setup i believe.

btw - if anyone in australia wants to book him, looks like he'll be back in japan at the end of the year:

ID in the PVH fnl part2 mix at 1 hour 26-30 mins? It's a well known one I'm pretty sure, heard it a few times before and it's killing me.

It's the track before Cio D'Or & Donato Dozzy - Menta

The Mike Parker ssgs are rather special too, especially the last one Big fan of his style and his emphasis on using hardware. It's a rare trait these days seeing techno artists embrace physical instruments with all the available plugins and VSTs.

Hoping he comes out to Oz next year or may have to catch him in the States. The day I get to see him live will be one to remember. I've listened to quite a bit of his online mixes and tracks, he keeps impressing me every time.

Chris / anyone who might know.. last track of the PVH set (last track of pt2)? Probably one of the best tracks I've heard all year, I can imagine it would of been an amazing moment of closing that 4 hour set. So much emotion to the track... Promise it's the last ID I'll ask for, as I didn't want to get caught up in the particular tunes of the set

Here are the details for the Brisbane show http://www.brisbanepowerhouse.org/ev...rke-screening/

I'll be there, come say hi to me if anyone here is going. Been a great few months for experimental music in Brisbane with Bee Mask, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Pete Swanson, Tyme & Tujiko Noriko and now John Elliot

Just to add, I've enjoyed all the above shows and I can't see why this won't be the same.

Grouper from Portland is also on the week after if anyone is interested. It'll be her only Australian show.

Quote:

Portland’s Grouper has defined a quality of textured song, the likes of which few performers can match. Cloaking washes of hazy instrumentation around her markedly individual voice, Grouper has defined a sound that is detailed in its simplicity and entirely her own.

Recent LP's like A I A and Violet Replacement expand her compelling palette, matching elegant song-form against more textured tape-driven compositions. Grouper comes to Brisbane for her only Australian show this year. A chance to bask in one of the most quietly powerful artists of our age.

for anyone that read ssgs, i'd really recommend checking bee mask's new release on lawrence english's room40 label. think this is probably the best thing i've heard this year:

the sound design and composition are totally next level.

Nice one, will grab that tonight. Really like that write up about you and the mix, very well written and zero wank factor which is ever too present in similar DJ bios/write ups.
