To be fair to Jrod, I think he is predicting massive deflation for the next year or two meaning that you will be able to buy more stuff for less US dollars. Thus the low price of $199.

Hah, I'm thinking closer to $499 USD outright launch price and $299 with a two year $15 monthly sub. Weak US dolla also means more expensive manufacturing and assembly costs thus the unit cost is inflated. The core market will pay top dolla early in the life cycle, so they may as well launch at a solid RRP.

It's in Sony's interest to launch behind the 720 so they don't make the same mistake they did with the PS3 by putting a whole lot of expensive tech in it that was ultimately wasted because the developers only geared their products to 360 spec. That said, Sony also wouldn't want to launch too far behind and let MS run away with the with the core market. Flogging PS3's for longer might make them some more cash from the casual market, but they need to be ready to get in the ring with next-gen sooner rather than later after MS launches.

Anyway, why in the fuck are we still speculating about about whether the 720 is launching next year? If it isn't, there sure as shit aren't going to be many releases on current gen since all the developers are openly working on next gen products.

I don't think it really matters too much how long they release it after the new XBox.

All the tards constantly go on and on about Play Station losing sales because they released later but then they go and compare total Xbox 360's sold vs total Playstation 3's sold. They then use the higher number of Xbox sales as their proof which is fucking retarded.

If you look at sales per month of both consoles it's pretty clear that Playstation has outperformed in sales consistently against the XBox pretty much since it's launch.

So pretty much the only reason more 360's have been sold is they sold them for a year before they sold PS3's. Now there is only a 2 million unit sales difference between the two and that's shrinking all the time.

Good points. Once Sony reached price parity with the 360 the simple fact that the PS3 has a BD player is the key to its catch up, IMHO. It will be interesting to see how the next gen plays out when Sony doesn't have that fundamental advantage. Who knows what the new cycle will bring?

Personally I couldn't really care less about when the PS4 launches. Certainly my PS3 gets used for the BD player more than anything (the media player is also good). I'm glad I had the console for Uncharted and God of War, because those were sensational games. Outside of those things, I really dislike everything else about the system. I suppose I could also say that the dashboard is quick, but that's about the only thing I like about it.

As an aside, I hope Microsoft don't get too carried away with trying to be stylish with their dashboard. They're not very good at marrying style and function. Certainly not in the same way as, let's say, Apple (not many others are either).

basically, suggestions on what kinect 2.0 could be, M$ have bought out a patent (back in 2011) showing a camera that projects the game onto the walls and furniture in the room around you. It uses the same kinect technology to see what is in the room and make it as visible to the viewer as possible. it also detects the viewer as to not shine light in their face.

If this is truly kinect 2.0 that is pretty crazy stuff!

We haven't seen AMDs new 28nm GPU (8xxx series) so not sure yet, but it's good to see they have brought the specs into 2012/2013 instead of 2010.

8-core FX processor doesn't actually mean shit because we don't know what their internal architecture will be like. All in all though, positive news.

Not necessarily. Their 8xxx gen is meant to be a new system where the GPU takes a whole heap more processor load as well as the traditional GPU load as well. Which then allows the actual CPU to be a lot more efficient as it can offload tasks to the GPU. Theoretically, this could mean more efficient processing as certain tasks don't need to be sent to the CPU then back. I guess the best analogy is a reflex on a body? Some things don't need your brain to process them, they just happen through reflex at certain points in your body, increasing speed. Does that make sense?

We don't actually know how well this works yet but it makes sense from a console perspective where you'd like the GPU to do the brunt of the work.

A 28nm GPU is fantastic news in terms of long term viability of the platforms. It also means that in 5-7 years when they become old tech again, they can keep them around for longer

so really, it sounds like its using top specs which will equal if not beat most of your gaming pcs when it comes out
(of course only for a matter of time).
