I have a feeling we could have hi5'd eachother on the way through. I arrived about then.

Keen to go back. Looked like a good crowd and not one I've seen enough of in Adelaide. Beer was delicious ad expected.

had a couple last night at the Union in Newtown. Hard to be definitive about it. Even during one schooner the verdict oscillated between 'too sweet/ sickly" to "delicious and filling". I couldn't imagine a session on the stuff and the lasting impression was of a fruity drop with a syrupy finish.

^ I had that the other night at slowbeer - its a weird one, but on a cold melbourne night with some cured meats to accompany it, I rated it.

its great to see James Squires beers becoming far more mainstream now. Pub on friday had golden and porter on tap.

Little creatures and coopers also way more common than previously. Now we need some more micro brews on tap.

Mojo Records bar on york st has a good range of bottled beers (no tap beer as yet)

Drinking a bootleg oatmeal stout from the margaret river at the moment. Great beer. Huge coffee aroma, and a bittersweet roasted malt flavour. I'll definitely be picking up a few more in the future.

I wish Bootleg was more widespread. It's even hard to find in the rest of WA, Perth included.

Wow. I didn't even know the entire range was available outside of Margaret River. Learn something new every day. I'll check it out if/when I get the craving.

yah and it's filled from a keg, so generally tastes better than normal bottled beer

If a growler is filled from a keg, you need to drink it within a couple of days or it will go flat / bad.

http://growler-station.com/growler/craftap/

Quote:

Standard filling equipment delivers a growler of beer that loses its integrity from the moment it's poured, only to erode completely within 2-3 days.

Some places (Lobethal Beirhaus in the Adelaide Hills as an example) fill and seal the growler in such a way it lasts for months.

slowbeer purge the headspace with co2 so it keeps well for a week or so if you don't open it.

Although, most growlers are lucky to last a day when you get them home. The best part about them is being able to get 'take aways' of limited keg only releases.

I would have thought that, you're using the carbonation pressure to keep the beer under pressure and carbonated.... which doesn't work well.

The bierhaus growlers will last months unopened, and maybe a week once opened. The only ones I know of in Aus that are bottled this way.

TAP 1: Red Duck Hoppy Amber

Purchased and drunk in growler format from the Beer Cartel chaps last weekend. Relatively low carbonation and remarkably British in taste and appearance. Highly recommended.

Official blurb: Hoppy Amber by name, nature and style. You could call this an American style amber ale, or a hoppy ESB, but lets keep it simple. This “triple hopped” ale is another tribute to some of the amazing brews coming out of US craft breweries. Fresh hop aromas lift readily, slightly bitter at the start and with a moderately bitter finish. Hop heads will love it, and will probably even consider this a session beer.

yep, I've had it in bottle, big eddie has drunk it at the source.

It's good, not aggressively hopped like some black IPAs (ie. our dark secret) and the malt backbone is great.
