Well I guess I should start with the amount of weight I've lost, and currently I'm
12.9kg down since starting the bet.
I've got mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I've very pleased with my progress. On the other hand, I'm hungrier for more loss and feel I could be doing more.
I projected my weight loss on this
public Google spreadsheet I shared from the get-go. But don't worry, I'm not going to make you look at a spreadsheet.
The
blue line shows my projected weight loss over time up until the 29th November. The
red line shows my progress thus far. As is painstakingly evident from the graph, the
red line has started to plateau over the last three weeks. So it's pretty good timing for Zodiac to bump this thread, and I'm glad I'm being called on to do an analysis.
From the literature I've read, plateaus are not uncommon. But this isn't a textbook plateau.
Looking at my nutrition over the last few weeks tells a deceptive story.
As you can see from my
red box, there's definitely been a drift toward some increased calorie intake. What you can't see from the graph is what I've been up to. I was in Singapore on a work trip for 10 days and as it was where I used to live, a lot of catching up and drinking took place. That drinking continued when I returned, and the only reason I haven't gone upwards again is because of one thing: training.
I don't know loopi tremendously well, but I have known her since the earlier ITM days and have
witnessed her transformation. For some reason, the quote above rings in my head every fucking day. Perhaps because I've got through life being clever, I tend to overthink things, and repeating this mantra has been a boon. If you keep repeating it, it goes a long way towards annihilating all the bullshit that your mind chucks up at you -
maybe I can eat a little bit, this doesn't count right?, just one more drink...
It can get doom and gloomy right?
The fuck no, cue up the victory lap. I'm the guy in the green t-shirt.
That's right buddy. I've been training my fucking arse off. That's me running the Blackmore's Bridge Run, it's 9km and
I ran it in 48:34 . That's pretty fast for someone that didn't run
at all as little as four months ago.
The City2Surf?
Nailed it. I did it in just over 88 minutes.
Here's me after crossing the finish line on the 12th August.
And here's me posing after crossing the line on the 16th September.
Improvement no? It should be, since considering I started this thing I've logged 31 runs and chalked up almost 200km of mileage.
Another thing to consider is that I was ambitious with my projections. Estimating a 5kg drop in the month of September was a bit on the ambitious side, so I'm not too concerned.
I've signed up for three more races to ensure the training continues. The
Run4Fun,
City2Sea, and the
Central Coast Half-Marathon. That's 10km, 14km and 21km respectively in the month of November.
October and November are no-go for drinking, it's two months leading into the silly season, I'll survive. It really is the biggest stumbling block as I'm not eating much in the way of crap. A typical weekday lunch looks like this:
And dinners are salads.
I'm confident of achieving the goal, and am ready to blow this last 7.1kg out of the way. But as I think I said in the last big update, it's become much, much more than a bet. I'm changing my life for the better and those goalposts -they'll keep shifting.
I've got this.
