In the immortal words of the great philosopher poet, Brian Taylor, "Wow-wee".

Epic game.

Can't say that the Swannies deserved it more than the Hawks but they mos def won it and that's how that shit rolls.

Super intense game: ebbs and flows every which way, and maybe the Swans were like %0.000000000000000000001 more desperate and more fortunate.

Well done Hawks, such a talented and hard-at-it unit (and probably unlucky in some respects), and Luke Hodge is a class dude.

The Swannies? Well, what can you say, they consistently defy expectations.

Great game, great season.

Fuck yes.

Feeling so fucking heartbroken. Nothing a big large pizza and 500ml can of Heineken can't fix (well I hope it will!)

oh well, at least I can take comfort in the fact that Freo beat Geelong in Melbourne - that will hold me over until next year

Malceski you beautiful furry man. His match-sealing goal reminded me of Paul Chapman's a few years ago (the one with Quarter-dick-main commentating).

That Jetta-Rioli sprint was magnificent. At the moment I'd still say Rioli>Jetta, but if Jetta develops in the coming seasons his marking/speccie and tackling skills then I'd say he'll be the better complete player than Rioli. But then again, it could be comparing apples with oranges because they both play different roles.

Goodes is an absolute warrior - playing on with a PCL and with no painkillers, same goes with Bolton - still playing with torn ligaments from a few weeks ago.

Mike Pyke had some pretty good moments early in the game with a couple of good contested marks, and was great for being the sole ruckman after Mummy got subbed. Could have done without that slow decision to get rid of the ball and getting LRT?? in trouble for holding the ball in the 3rd?? quarter.

As I thought the Hawks would, they had their 3rd quarter burst only this time instead of putting themselves out of reach/ahead, as they did in the '08 GF and against Adelaide, they only drew level after the awesome 6-straight 2nd quarter from the Swans; and the Swans were able to seize the momentum as that burst died out and retake the lead in the 4th.

How awesome and appropriate would it have been if Jetta kicked the match-sealer from his set shot after his 19-behinds streak, but I suppose it was still good for Malceski to kick the first (fucking awesome) and last goal for the Swans after having kicked the Swans' last goal in '06.

Really happy for Mitch Morton, but a bit sad for Ben McGlynn - he looked devastated.

And note to self - don't go to a mates place to watch a Swans GF if you're going to be the only Swans & AFL supporter/sports fan there. I still went nuts and was yelling at the TV and didn't GAF about the looks I was getting, but I probably could have done without the 'you're getting pretty invested in the game' type comments, and also: "who are the Swans playing?" and "oh is this the rugby grand final?" [no, that's tomorrow and it's Rugby League] - it was a bit infuriating in the period of anxiety and tension. Thank goodness, the Swans won because I'm pretty sure I would have heard "don't worry, it's only a game" and I would have severely injured the person who said it. In the end, it is only a game but at that very moment it would have been the worst thing to hear.

Essendon tabled a $800k contract to Goddard. Saints have 72 hours to match it.
Monfries to Port
McIntosh to Geelong

I've been thinking about it a lot since yesterday, the fact that the hawks kicked 11.15. I think this can be attributed to our tough pressure in the center and the defense causing hawks delivery into their forward line to not be allowed very deep. Every time they went in deep, the swans either spoiled and crumbed it back out the 'slingshot' method we do so well or a mark was taken by our defenders. The Herald Sun used to show "Distance of goals" but it doesn't any more, but I'd be curious to see what the hawks were scored from. And yeah the whole point of this rant is that stopping a team going deep into their 50 makes it a lot harder for them to kick accurately, especially with notoriously inaccurate players like Franklin and Hale.

3 of buddy's were outside 50, as was Hale's first, Isaac Smith's goal, Jack Gunston's first was from 45 - thats all I can think of.

and Hale is usually quite accurate - has been for most of the year.

seems we just shit ourselves in big games, this has to stop. It seems we've learnt next to nothing re close games since that one point loss we had to Geelong in 2010 when Bartel kicked that point after the siren.....

8am jager bombs to celebrate the victory ftw.

Such an epic game. Hanneberry (after not really touching the ball in the first quarter) and O'Keefe were fucking immense.

I don't think the Hawks shat themselves at all. As I said before, the Swans deserved their win but the Hawks didn't deserve to lose iykwim. Hawks definitely missed a few easy shots, Gunston and Buddy (a coupla times) but you also got some difficult shots that could've just as easily missed (Buddy a coupla times). It all kinda evens out is what I'm saying.

The Hawks played well in patches, the Swans likewise, it was that kind of see-sawing tussle that you expect when two teams play in a GF. If you start putting what ifs into the equation then you can always find a reason your team wins or loses. What if Franklin nails two more set shots rather than missing? What if Goodes doesn't get injured in the 2nd quarter? What if Gunston or Roughead don't hit the posts? What if Mummy hadn't done a hammy on Thursday? What if Kennedy hadn't hit the post which would have put us 30+ in front in the 3rd quarter? What if LRT hadn't missed from in front? What if Sewell snaps truly one of those shots in the last 5 minutes?

It's endless. The Hawks played well, I don't think there was any subconscious choking going on in their mindset, they just played a team that has shown all year it knows how to absorb pressure and remain composed when it isn't going their way. There should be no shame in losing to the Swans.

The game was worthy of being the ultimate decider.

You are right it was an up and down game, but realistically the swans were more consistent over 4 quarters. Hawks played in two 5-10min bursts (end of first quarter, end of third quarter/start of last). Not really good enough if you want to win the flag.

I can't think of too many teams that win the flag scoring two goals across two quarters.
