I want to rip audio from Red Bull's Music Academy Radio, because they have no download thingy, and their Fireside chats are so good.
So, is there a free program that does this.

Did I even explain it right? So like, I play the broadcast, it records straight to the *thingy*, then I have an mp3 file I can listen to.

The 'stream' is already up on the website. I need something that when I play the mix, the program will record the sound. Like a screencapture, but a sound capture, does that make sense?

yeah any audio recorder program like audacity can do a "sound capture", you might need to set things up so it records normal sound output (right click the volume control tray icon -> recording devices -> enable "stereo mix" and disable the others) but i think it's usually set to that by default

doing a "sound capture" isn't ideal though since for one thing when you save it you'll presumably end up recompressing an already compressed source, plus other things like you'll have to listen to it all the way through without interruptions and without your computer making any other sounds for it to record properly (lol i remember years ago getting some shitty scene rip and it occasionally got interrupted by the MSN Messenger sound) and even then depending on hardware/software it may not record perfectly anyway

better is if you can do like a "stream capture" and save the actual (probably mp3) file you're streaming, which sometimes is pretty difficult but on certain sites (youtube etc) can be really easy if you have something like the flashgot plugin for firefox or whatever equivalent plugin for chrome etc. that way it'd just be downloading the file like normal so should do it faster (download speed not playback speed) and with the sound at the same quality

oh wait if it's a live stream rather than just streaming playback of an earlier recording that'll complicate things even further and stuff like flashgot probably won't work

there are ways to do it but i don't really know off the top of my head what those are lol, you could try googling it or just fall back on the audacity method
