Process so far.
E3 Visas are for Australians ONLY. In any year there are about 10,500 allocated but only about 1/3rd of those are used. They are significantly easier to get than a L1/L2 intracompany transfer or H1B/greencard type of visa. Note that they are valid for two years only, but Ive heard the renewal process is as simple as booking an interview and getting rubber stamped. If you have a spouse he/she may work under the E3D visa if you get sponsored for an E3.
1. Find a job in the US that requires a degree. That's probably the hardest part. My company offered me a role in the US but Im sure if you google or search some expat forums you can find recruiters who can assist.
2. Get the company to
file a LCA (Labor Condition Application / form ETA-9035) online. Your employer can fill it out online and file it electronically with the US Department of Labor. The purpose of this is to show that your employer will be paying you fairly in accordance with your new role and location.
3. Once the LCA is approved and signed by the company,
fill in a DS-160 online form (non-immigrant visa application where you specify that you're an E3)
- You'll need a passport photo to upload. I just took a pic with a white background and cropped it to the 600x600 (square dimensions required). It cant have shadows, must be well lit, etc etc.
4.
Pay the $270 application fee (and wait 24 hours if you do it online)
5.
Book the interview at the consulate.
- Take evidence that you have ties to Australia (car title, mortgage details, etc). You
will need to demonstrate that you are a temporary worker in the US.
- Take passport with 5 spare pages that wont run out during the visa period.
- Take some spare passport photos
- Take the DS-160 confirmation printout
- Take the signed LCA from your company (aka form ETA-9035)
- Take your university degree and transcript (and copies)
6. Get visa, move to US, ???, profit.
