Ritmo played that remix a few weeks ago and I wasn't feeling it in the slightest. Sad times.

Headroom, Ace Ventura, Klopfgeister (!!), Loud, Young Kim and some others join the as yet unannounced Mad Maxx and E-Clip on Maitreya lineup. So solid. Alex Smoke also a decent addition.
Need to work out a way to get down there next year.

And that's why I like Maitreya better than RSF

See how we go. Might be taking a redundancy at end of march, in which case I'd have sick days to use. It's a bit harder than RSF as there's no NSW public holiday to assist with days off.
All up in the air at the moment, also factoring if I go to europe next year or not, etc.

Fresh from his standout lunchtime session at the Eclipse, the new Atmos album is a late contender for album of the year.

Talpa - The Path would be right up there, but that may technically be December 2011 I think. Has really grown on me in recent months. His album as The Riddler was released the other day could be a late contender - CD released now, digital in Feb - does that make it a 2012 or 13 release? Perhaps if it does

I actually think Kalya Scintilla - Dance The Spiral Never Ending - is the standout album of 2012. But that's not trance.

Sonic Species - Unleash The Beat and Solar Fields - Random Friday split it for trance. The Neuroplasm EP was sick, and the Atmos album is brilliant, but the former two are absolute peaks of their respective sides of trance. I haven't yet properly listened to the Airwave album but not sure it's quite at the same level. There was a heap of fun stuff out this year though like that and the Killerwatts album as other examples. Micky Noise's barrage of singles also worth a mention just in terms of good new tunes.

The ill.Gates and Opiuo EP releases were excellent in terms of non-trance. Prog was a bit flat this year except if you count Ritmo with a solid run of productions.

Sorry to spam but this is pretty much my trance masterpiece

So I did an end of year mix. This is the pumping trance - pure as Platipus or Harthouse or a 1994 Sven Vath eye-q set. Some of my favourites from throughout the year.

While the trance that tries to sound like anything but trance (Armin and co. Trance 2.0) burns itself out over the next few years - this will become the fresh new sound of trance - in its purest form.

1. Paralogue - Saos
2. Aerospace & Motion Drive - Strange Dreams
3. Atmos - Resign Riot
4. Magnus - Velvet
5. Union Jack - Papillon (Domestic & LOUD mix)
6. Mindwave - Rush
7. Impact & Static Movement - The Lost Tribe
8. Ace Ventura & Rocky - Serotonin Overdose (Protonica mix)
9. Will Atkinson & Darkboy - Darker Shades of Black (Liquid Soul mix)
10. Zyce & Flegma - Reanimation (Relativ mix)
11. Aqualize - Land of 2 Suns (Lyctum mix)
12. Mindwave - Enlightenment
13. Protoaktive - See the Connection (Monod mix)
14. Ace Ventura - Sao Paulo (Ritmo mix)
15. Fire Starter - Sky Dive
16. Ovnimoon - Galactic Mantra (Lytctum mix) {Loop only}
17. John 00 Fleming - Mustang
18. Deedrah - Half of Me (Mickey Noise mix)
19. Zyce & Flegma - Shades of Gray
20. Bissen & Victor Dinaire - Symmetry C

^^^ awesome mix, had a good listen today. Solid selection.

The Riddler - From Myst to Twist arrived in the mail on Monday. It's fun but not quite as good as the last LP Questions was. It leaves Atmos - 604 and Solar Fields - Random Friday as the clear trance standouts this year.

Whoa, and a late contender enters the scene for album of the year.
Electrypnose - E7, the follow up to his album 'Funked Up' a few years ago.

https://soundcloud.com/vince-1-1/ele...album-full-mix

Such a unique sound. His set at RSF in January was probably my set of the year (and I saw heaps of good psy/prog sets this year), the new album is indicative of the sounds he played in the first 30mins there. Great stuff. The updated remix of Fractilization De Lego is a standout.

Outstanding. Scorb's production really shines through but it's tempered and not as brutal as his solo stuff.

Quality rant from John Askew on Facebook

"Spent 3 hours going through 9GB of promos and guess what? Not 1 decent track out there - in 9 cocking GB of music!!!

So many names in here that I used to love. All of them now making poor quality electro house garbage. Desperate for just an inch more popularity. Shallow human beings who lie awake dreading the prospect that their piers will overtake them in the polls.

I can't imagine what it must feel like to look in the mirror every day and see a fraud. I can't comprehend the concept of not being able to make the music you love because you're too busy being a sheep - following on copying everyone else in the hope you'll have a slice of that juicy pie that keeps eluding you. Gagging for a quick suck on that throbbing electro house member that the boys at the top have been riding so vigorously for the last few years - you know the one - the big veiny fucker that preoccupies your dreams. Yeah you know the one.

Well enjoy that salty filth. You've earned it."

just came in here to see if that had been shared yet

of course he says Oakie's EM is good. He picked half the tracks for it. (The good half.) Oakenfold is just a front for John's music selection these days.

Don't rate that Neelix remix at all. Not in the slightest. Anyone know if Nick Sentience is still doing most of Simon's production work? It has a bit of that old hard house feel to it but none of the quality I expect from Sentience.

Askew has woken up and is back at it:

Quote:

Yes people should be free to make whatever music they want - in the same way I should be allowed to take the piss out of them if I think they've sold out.

You can defend them all you want, in fact I admire you for doing so, but don't you find it a little suspect that whenever these characters change their style and sound - it's always a "coincidence" they select whatever sound happens to be "popular" that month?

I love what Askew is saying but he loses a lot of credibilty when he starts harping on about how good Oakies EM is....we know and he knows it is all kinds of average.

Oakie just did a remix of Bruno Mars -Locked of a Heaven for FFS

Finally got around to the Circuit Breakers LP. Very enjoyable, best thing to come out of Nano since Fearsome Engine LP. Maybe not quite enough variety over 9 tracks but it nails what it does. Dick Trevor can make anything sound good.

Master Blasters ‎– Life Changing Experiences... was released on Nano in 2011 but flew under the radar. At least as good as Biting Point. Underrated.

It's good, probably comparable to Circuit Breakers (but different) but Biting Point is the definitive Nano album.

how?

It's got 3-4 standout tunes and the rest are alright. Same as pretty much every other album released on Nano in the last few years. Can respect a difference of opinion but I just can't see how Biting Point differs that much from Distant Futures, Wasabi, Artelligent, Sacred Technology etc

you might have me on Artelligent (which would join Master Blasters and Circuit Breakers in a top 4) but Biting Point has more variety and is overall better written music than the rest. It's more like 7 very solid tracks. It's one of those collabs where the sum is greater than the parts for sure. (Whereas Circuit Breakers is basically Dickster dragging Burn In Noise up to his level.)
Distant Futures and dare I say even Sacred Technology are a bit bland by comparison.
