Stop Townsend cutting in and shooting and Soldado comes good. I feel bad for him getting the blame, it's not him

I tipped Lamela for 'most assists' in the predictions thread, thinking he'd be feeding crosses into Soldado all day.

They'll never admit it but they miss Gareth Bale. Add to that AVB's selection is mind boggling.

Palace job looks like it'll be between ex-ManUre 2IC René Meulensteen and ex Real Madrid 2IC Aitor Karanka. Glad we're steering clear of Cookie Coleman and Tony Pulis.

Would be happy with either of Meulensteen or Karanka- both very highly regarded by Ferguson and Maureen.
Muscat admitted after the grand final loss to Sydney FC last month that he would be haunted for some time for sending his spot kick into the post, a miss which helped Sydney claim the championship.

René Meulensteen is believed to be a huge part of our recent success, would be a great move if he can make the transition from head coach to manager....

Not really, had him in my fantasy league team. I thought he looked the goods but the service he got was shithouse. They've resolved that and he looks like an animal now.

He has a valid point though.

Our only backup striker is the shittest in the EPL and constantly complains that he is still an arsenal player

Fuck him

Interesting piece on Phil Jones after the Arsenal match. Not too long winded also which makes for a good quick read -

http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/manche...d/3381?cc=3436

And from SAF earlier in the year -

'Jones is going to be a phenomenal player,' said Ferguson.
'He has a fantastic influence, no matter where he plays.
'He has an instinct for the game and a drive about him.
'I have no idea where his best position is. He could play anywhere on the pitch. But he will be one of the best players we have ever had.'

Just saw the highlights from the Southampton match, Lambert and Lallana are still on fire, in particular Lallana. Would like to see him get on the pitch for the next England match. They're both products of the Southampton academy, continues the reputation it's gained from the players produced over the years

@ Ace I love Jones, I think he could captain both Utd and England one day. Still a lot to learn but guy is a beast with so much potential. Not many 20/21 year olds have the maturity in the way they play ( especially CDM/CB) the way he does.

Its nice to think Jones, Smalling, Rafael and De Gea could be our back line foundation for the next 10 years +.

Lambert's not a product of the Southampton youth system. He was with Liverpool as a kid

I love Lambert's story. Released by Liverpool at 15, playing non-league football at 16, working his way up through the third division while working in a factory, making the second division, then first division/championship, finally making it to the Premier League aged 30, being written off as too old to be a success, doing so well he gets a debut international cap aged 31, scoring on international debut with his first touch of the ball and now most likely heading to a world cup.

Fuck your Wayne Rooney's and Theo Walcotts, this is a guy who should be an inspiration for kids about never giving up and chasing your dreams. I'd buy his book in a heartbeat.

To be fair, he's said that he would have probably been a success much sooner if he didn't spend all day eating pies and drinking beer. He only started scoring shed loads of goals when he stopped that and lost a bunch of weight. It could just as easily be a story of someone throwing away the best part of his career through lack of discipline.

That said, having thrown the best part of my life away on pies, bear, pills and acid I can totally understand.

English football and FIFA closing on deal to see 2022 World Cup shifted to winter

THE Barclays Premier League is closing in a deal that would secure a northern winter FIFA World Cup 2022.

According to the Telegraph.co.uk, the agreement would see the sport's pinnacle event shifted to November and December.

FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke is leading the charge and has been meeting with English football heavyweights - including EPL chief executive Richard Scudamore and FA general secretary Alex Horne.

"I can tell you that, with the Premier League, we are close to an understanding," said Valcke, who insisted that a spring World Cup was "impossible" after FIFA president Sepp Blatter also ruled out a January-February tournament.

It is understood the EPL and FA are determined to keep their traditional Christmas period fixture.

"That was part of the discussion, that we have to protect your specific period, which is Boxing Day and these very specific 10 days, which are part of the history of English football," Valcke said.

Once Valcke completes his review, major stakeholders will meet to try and design a new international calender.

However, one of the biggest issues will be the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which would normally begin in January of that year.

"There are a number of things still to work on but the final goal is to try to have either in December 2014 or, at the latest, in March 2015, a final decision."

"Does it make sense to have the Africa Cup of Nations three weeks after the World Cup? Is it not too much with regards of the release of players?"

He also highlighted the problem of winning over TV networks, which have already signed broadcast deals for the 2022 World Cu

AN ARSENAL fan has been left homeless after he bet his house on Arsenal beating Manchester United and lost.

The Observer reports that Henry Dhabasani, from Iganga, Uganda, made the bet against Rashid Yiga, confident that Arsenal would defeat the English Premier League champions.

Dhabasani put up his two-bedroom home, while Mr Yiga wagered his new Toyota Premio and his wife.
The pair put their bet in writing and it was witnessed by local leaders.

Dhabasani, already married to three women with who he has five children, fainted at the end of the match as Manchester United won 1-0.

The day after the game Manchester United fans stormed the home and threw out Dhabasani and his family.

Fulham appoint former assistant manager at Manchester United Rene Meulensteen as head coach

Spoiler:

Quote:

Martin Jol will retain full control over team selection at Fulham despite the appointment on Wednesday of Rene Meulensteen, Sir Alex Ferguson’s former first-team coach at Manchester United, as the new head coach.
Meulensteen has turned down managerial possibilities at Crystal Palace and Nuremburg to join Fulham but the club are adamant that Jol’s status is unaffected. Jol’s position as manager has come under intense scrutiny after a run of four consecutive defeats, with the team having also slipped into the bottom three of the Premier League table.
Meulensteen is expected to work alongside Jol on all aspects of the club but will be especially involved on the training ground after having such success in a hands-on coaching role at United. Jol will continue to pick the team and is said to be fully supÂ*portive of the appointment. Indeed, Meulensteen did also nearly join Fulham earlier in the season and the two Dutchmen have held lengthy conversations about the new structure and how they can inspire an improvement in the team’s performances.
Although Jol was not quoted on the club’s statement to announce Meulensteen’s arrival, he will outline his thoughts on the appointment on Thursday.
Meulensteen’s title of 'head coach’ has added to the conjecture surrounding the appointment, although Fulham can point out that Michael Lindeman also has that title beneath Jol’s role as manager. The positions of Lindeman, first-team coach Billy McKinlay, goalkeeping coach Hans Segers, football operations manager Cornelis Jol and fitness coach Scott Miller are unaffected.
