back to wax
I recently upgraded my set up 2 CDJ 900 Nexus's and a DJM 750 still got the 1200's and i am loving it but I've found myself buying more and more wax I've basically filled my box with new stuff in the last 6 months.
i was wondering if anyone else has gone back to buying vinyl (love all the coloured vinyl coming out too) plus it seems like all the tunes i like are on vinyl but struggle finding the same stuff on digital anyone else find this ?

Every now and again I hear a track and I can only find it on vinyl, or it's released on vinyl and after I buy it released digitally. Haven't bought much recently though as I don't get time to play too much still tend to buy digital if I really want a track or intend to play it out.

Any tips on good vinyl stores? Discogs is great, but the postage is a killer!

Other than discogs, juno or deejay.de. But as you say, the postage starts to add up.

i started the switch from digital to vinyl last year, i've now got to the stage where i've only shopped on beatport twice in the last 6 months.

as the other guys have suggested, decks.de deejay.de and juno are probably the best, and shipping is a pain....just make sure you buy a decent number (at least 10) so the shipping gets spread out a bit more. it actually works out close to the same to what you'd pay in an australian store.

as for Aust based stores, there's a few good 2nd hand stores around but its really hard to find good stuff. Melbournes got a few decent shops for new stuff, but not much of a range, Sydney has one shop...but mostly dnb / bass.

Adelaide though, has transition records.....which is amazing

At this point i wont point out that i have at least 6 amazing record shops in a 15 minute bike ride from my apartment

well i had a look at those other sites they look good but just a fraction more expensive than juno from what i saw but a good selection of tunes will give them a try in future for sure i always get at least 10 or so at a time myself cause yeah its way better for shipping i just don't have the time to go in and shop these days.

i used to love going in to reachin, one stop, central ,bpm and browse for hrs then i used to shop at vinyl warning online that was pretty good but when they went closed that i stopped buying plus having a newborn in the house slows the mixing so now my sons a bit older i got some time again to mix

i did find some cracking tunes on juno download last night but struggled on beatport think i might do my digital shopping there now

does anyone know another download sites with quality house and techno i can only remember trackitdown

Bandcamp............... so much gold on there.

Its a bit harder to search on there, but what you get is a LOT better.

Plus there's a lot of vinyl on there

Plus the money goes straight to the artist / label

I stopped buying vinyl around 10 years ago, basically when the CDJ1000 was becoming popular in clubs. I then moved to a DVS setup with Traktor a few years back so I could still get that vinyl feel. When I was buying there were a few decent stores in Melbourne, unfortunately a few of them have closed down. Juno and HTFR were my two online choices. HTFR used to have a lot of old pressings that I was after and Juno's range was pretty great. As everyone has mentioned, shipping is always the killer! I hear HTFR went bust or something recently?

A little over $16 for a record is a good price! Looks like HTFR has updated there site and now offer a digital page too - https://www.htfr.com. Even though I'm in the middle of selling off all of my records I might have to check them out again! I always found some gems from that site and I'll always have a crate or two that I can't part with.

What do you mean by 12" import? Aren't they all imports?

Yah, $16.50 per plate landed is great...last buying 12"s from bricks and mortar store they were $22-$25 each. I just can't justify it anymore...buy a lot of LPs, but there's value there...some have been as low as $30-$35 for a double plate release of a full 12-16 song album complete with a digital download code...$25 for ONE 12" single...pass

yeah they are all imports these days but I'm old lol so i have records that are not as well and yeah $25 for one or two tunes is just not real feasible these days even at 17 or so i gotta make sure i like at least two tracks on record and if there is only two on record one had better be a full bomb i try and get records with 4 tracks though little bit better value

And as you already know mate Bandcamp, the best thing about Bandcamp is while you are searching for tekkers you can also be scoping some of the awesome metal/stoner on there!

Jeez 25$ for a 12" is pretty steep. Was that recently?

I try to keep standard 12"s at 18$ but there's no way I can compete with those online vending machines doing them for $16.50, In fact I can't really compete with them on range, price, or upfront release dates. And sometimes they'll buy an entire pressing, leaving none left for anyone else. So fucked.

Australia is an expensive place to do business. Import duty, GST, and inner-city rents killers. But the laughs and the characters make it all worth while

$25 might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but I remember paying $22 a plate for new release 12"s before (3-4 years ago)

Yeah for sure. I recall seeing one-sided Omar S records for 25$ just a few years ago. No thanks!

Most i've paid was about $70 AU + postage for a copy of the Blawan - Getting Me Down bootleg. I've bought 'limited edition' vinyl before only to see it pop up on beatport a month later.

I've had 1210's and CDJ1000's since the start and tended to buy both early on.

Tend to buy more MP3's these days and purchase some new wax a few times a year (either online or through Profile in Melb) + also go digging at Alley Tunes in Melb a few times a year as well for second hand stuff. Find there are people selling their stuff and can generally find some jems there!
But if your life is such a big joke, why should I care?
