Ticketmaster can eat a massive bag of dicks. Select tickets, enter details, press submit, "tickets are no longer available", back to start. Rinse and repeat 6 fucking times. Managed to snag one ticket for November and two for Feb but not before I'd yelled so many obscenities at the screen that people in the office probably think I suddenly developed Tourettes.

Got 4 for Nov and 3 for Feb, didn't need to use my code though.

Stupid system.
Muscat admitted after the grand final loss to Sydney FC last month that he would be haunted for some time for sending his spot kick into the post, a miss which helped Sydney claim the championship.

I'm pretty sure we will take any spare for Feb if you haven't offloaded. Angus only got 1 ticket along with my 3

happy to get through last night's game without really any injuries - it was always going to be that the low-ranked side goes out there and tries to overcome the gap in skill by hacking the shit out of everyone. it's nice to have that boot on the other foot for a change, usually it's the glory (ie jacob burns) hacking the shit out of everyone.

Glory looked pretty solid last night.

I'll also add that having a great commentator really adds to the enjoyment of the game. I think it was Simon Hill last night who was doing the majority of the commentating, he knew all the players names as well sd what they did for a living and it was refreshing to hear a commentator take a genuine interest in the players.

can someone tell me how the centralised merchandising works? sounds stupid if the club doesnt benefit
Sydney FC's match against Melbourne Victory on Saturday is set to break the club's combined record attendance for an opening four home games of the season, but the true value is in the difference to their bottom line.

Sydney's best start to a season is having a significant impact on their off-field success; more than 100,000 fans are expected to have gone through the turnstiles at Moore Park by this weekend.

A predicted attendance of up to 25,000 for the "Big Blue" will set a record in terms of crowds for the Sky Blues and help trim the club's losses in its 10th season. With limited revenue streams available to A-League clubs, Sydney's strong start this year is a welcome for the club; the first four home games are set to deliver up to $200,000 in profit.

A home Sydney derby and an opening-round fixture against David Villa and Melbourne City helped open their account, but their undefeated start and first positive opening to a season in five years is the attraction for fans. Sydney's attendances are reflective of the overall spike in crowd figures in the A-League. Centralised merchandise streams severely limit income for clubs and the broadcast deal only accounts for the salary cap, so the reality is that gate receipts remain an integral part of club's balance sheet.

"It's great not just for us but across the whole A-League," Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata said. "Crowds in Melbourne have been sensational, we played in front of a near sell-out in Adelaide last week. It's a good sign of how strong the A-League is at the moment and crowds are a way of helping clubs put dollars in the bank."

Sydney FC has some of the highest overheads in the A-League, driven largely by their history of signing marquee players and high tenancy fees. It is important the club begins their season with bumper attendances as match-day operational costs often require an attendance of about 14,000 at Allianz Stadium just to break even. Another bumper crowd for the match against the Victory on Saturday will continue to provide small regular profits that can be sustained with a forecasted crowd average of close to 20,000.

"One of the best ways clubs can drive dollars into their bank accounts is through crowds and memberships," Pignata said. "We have our set distribution rights from the FFA but merchandise is centralised, it's very difficult to make money out of it but certainly bums on seats – as we like to call it – really drives dollars into club accounts. Great crowds and record high memberships bodes well and when people see that, you get more sponsorships. We've just signed two sponsors this week to our back of shorts. Crowds are the catalyst for driving revenue."

Depends who you buy from. In most cases, the FFA will get a large cut, but there is a way to ensure 100% goes to the club.

i cannot believe some of the rubbish coming out of the glory camp re: ffa cup final. while i don't think that it is 100% "fair" that adelaide get to host the final at home, i don't understand how the glory ever thought that they had a god given right to host it themselves. tony sage is blasting on about how we earned it... fuck off. if anything, adelaide earned it. they had to play a-league opposition in every round, while we came up against pub team that couldn't kick a ball (melbourne victory included). it's embarrassing.

the ffa have acknowledged that they made some oversights - mainly in that nobody expected glory to get through round one, so having them in the final creates a massive challenge when they are hosting it on a tuesday night - time difference and the logistics of the operation come right into play. the last thing they need is a 1am finish like our quarter final against the hype. next season they will be playing the final on a weekend, which will be better. there is nothing that can be done now about this season.

and for all the spuds that are saying they should have picked a neutral venue.. well, jesus. that would be great for the 12 melbourne people that showed up to watch a match between adelaide and perth.

Seb ryall was shit.

Would have taken a point pre-game, away from home against a good side with half our team missing. Especially with only one recognised defender (if you could even call Leijer that).

BUT, should have been in front by half time with so many glorious chances.

Still, two home games in a row now. Should also get some players back.

Could have gone either way. Brosque (twice) and Smeltz should have scored for us, and the Tards blew 3 or 4 good chances in the first half. Draw probably the right result.

this is the first season I haven't bought a season ticket

not regretting my decision one little bit - in fact, the way Newcastle are going I reckon we'll be lucky to get a win all season

and for the FFA Cup final - I reckon they should have a plan to hold the game mid-way between the two teams playing in it

sure it would be difficult playing this year's one in Eucla or on a barge in the middle of the Great Australian Bight - but shit, it's not like it couldn't be done, here's that one in Singapore

if it has to be on land then roll out some artificial turf on a runway or some other flat ground, a few temporary stands - bus in the punters across the Nullarbor in air conditioned luxury (you may lose a few migrant workers on 457 visas in the construction phase but let's not think about that, besides, they're foreign and don't count)

holding the final in January would also not be a problem, even though it apparently gets a bit warm in the Nullarbor - you could just have air conditioned stadiums (mind you the technology hasn't been invented yet)

imagine the worldwide press you'd get for that sort of shit

I went to FC v Vic on Saturday with a Geordie mate

Victory had a goal disallowed for one of the most amateur plays I have ever witnessed - passing to a guy in an offside position - just retarded. Then FC had a goal disallowed again for offside

My mate turns to me and says "this is fucking pathetic, they're fucking clueless....... it's like watching Newcastle v West Ham"

Sydney FC marquee Marc Janko has pulled out of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to captain his native Austria against Brazil, declaring he'd rather come back to the A-League for Saturday night's clash against Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

Janko was already in his home country last week, helping them to a critical 1-0 win over Russia in their Euro 2016 qualifier, a result that elevated Das Team to the head of a group that also contains Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro and Sweden. The top two sides automatically qualify for the tournament proper in France.

However, in a clear sign of Janko's commitment to the Sky Blues, he bucked the chance to play in the glamour friendly against the South American powerhouse on Tuesday night. Instead, he was already back at the club's training base at Macquarie University.

"Although it would have been a fantastic opportuity to play against Brazil - I have never played against them and I think it would probably be my only chance to play against them at international level - I want to make this sacrifice to play for Sydney FC," he said on Wednesday.

"I feel it's more important for me and also for the club that I'm in fresh shape for the weekend's game.

"If I had played against Brazil, I would have had to have come back on Friday night with a huge amount of jetlag. That would have raised the risk of getting injured quite a lot and perhaps it would have affected my performance as well.

"It was a tough decision, a big decision, but one I felt I had to make."

Janko insists Austrian manager Marcel Koller understood his predicament and did not begrudge his decision to miss the friendly against the Selecao.

"He had a good understanding for my situation because he knows that especially when I come back to Australia I'm suffering jetlag for three or four days," he said.

"When I'm going to Europe it's not that bad, but when I'm flying back it's always quite heavy for my body. He's always supporting me in any kind of way, so he was fine with my decision."

The win over Russia - secured by Janko's replacement from the bench, Rubin Okotie - means that Austria have picked up 10 points of a possible 12, four points clear of second-placed Sweden.

"We're flying at the moment. We are still unbeaten as a team and it's an unbelievable run we're having at the moment with great results," he said.

"I hope it will continue like that next year. We have a very good squad, a very good team spirit and everything is on track."

While Austria has a tremendous football history in the early stages of the 20th century, it has lagged so much behind their European rivals that they've never directly qualified for continental championships, taking part in 2008 for the first time, but only qualifying as co-hosts.

"There's still a long way to go before 2016, there's still six games in front of us," Janko said.

"We're not there yet and we have to take each game very seriously and the results of the past have shown that even the smaller countries from the groups can compete with the big ones. We have to watch out, especially against those smaller teams, to make sure we collect the points."

The Austrian squad compromises players currently playing at teams like such as Bayern Munich (David Alaba), Schalke (Christian Fuchs), Werder Bremen (Sebastian Prodl and Zlatko Junuzovic), Aston Villa (Andreas Weimann) and Dynamo Kyiv (Aleksandar Dragovic) but Janko says the Austrian authorities have no problems about their captain playing in the A-League - and that everyone saw his stunning round-two goal against Brisbane Roar.

"We have quite a few players who are playing in the Austrian league, which is a similar level to the A-League and that's never been a problem," Janko said.

"The funny thing about that goal is that I've never scored a goal in Europe that was shown as much on television as the one I scored against Brisbane.

"Everyone over there saw it and was talking about it. Now I'm trying to improve my game each week and hopefully I can score a few more goals for the team."

We've got Antonis for a further two years, and best thing is there is no release clause in the contract so we won't be low-balled.

Sydney FC have secured the services of one of the hottest properties in Australian domestic football for a further two years after Terry Antonis signed a contract extension that will keep him at Moore Park until 2017.

The 20-year-old midfielder snubbed the chance to try his luck moving to Europe as a free agent at the end of this season in favour of staying with the Sky Blues. Antonis was twice close to securing a move to Europe in the past having attracted strong interest but opted to stay in the A-League where he believes his development is best placed.

In this past year, Antonis was on the cusp of moving to the Italian Serie A with Parma after personal terms were agreed to, but the deal collapsed. He also trialled with Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach. Now, he is intent on remaining in Australia for the near future and it is understood his new deal with Sydney FC does not include a release clause relating to a transfer offer from a foreign club.

"I've obviously wanted to go overseas but at the moment I think it's best to stay here," Antonis said. "I want to play, I want to become a better player. At Sydney I can mature, especially with the coaching staff behind me, I think I can grow as a better player. It was my decision, I spoke with my agent and I thought staying here with the players behind me, learning and becoming a better player, it was best to stay here."

Under the guidance of Sydney coach Graham Arnold, Antonis established himself as a first-team regular this season partnering Milos Dimitrijevic in the midfield. His performance was recognised by Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, who selected Antonis in his past two national team squads only for the youngster to be ruled out through injury and a car accident en route to the airport. "Terry Antonis is an exceptional young talent and I'm pleased to have secured a player of his calibre to Sydney FC for another two years," Arnold said. "As the biggest club in the country we need to have the best players and I believe Terry is well on his way to becoming one of Australia's top midfielders. I'm looking forward to working with Terry for a further two years and I hope to see him reach his potential with Sydney FC."

The Sky Blues are enjoying one of their best starts to an A-League season and Antonis is hopeful of playing Asian Champions League football next season as a result of a successful year.

"Sydney FC are the only club for me, they have always been there for me much like a family and it's a hugely enjoyable place to play football. There was never any hesitation when the offer came through and I'm confident I can achieve my goal of winning trophies here," he said.

Antonis has been at the Sky Blues for more than four years, having joined the club as a 16-year-old from the Australian Institute of Sport in June 2010. He had signed a long-term contract with Premier League club Everton as a 14-year-old but was denied a chance to move to England because of visa restrictions preventing youngsters moving abroad. He has played 54 games for Sydney in a career that has often been interrupted by injuries and international call-ups.

Muscat admitted after the grand final loss to Sydney FC last month that he would be haunted for some time for sending his spot kick into the post, a miss which helped Sydney claim the championship.
