Roland GrooveBox MC-505
Well.....i've recently inherited one of these from my older brother.
Great fun but damn tricky. Not expecting it to be easy but what sorta stuff can i get to go with it. Was recently in melb for Gatecrasher and saw honeysmack using one (along with other machines). I've basically hibernated and have been messing with this machine..its soo much fun but my friends are wondering where i am. Does anyone have one of these and any suggestions as to what i should/could put with this, i've got a computer....any ideas??? |

Re: Roland GrooveBox MC-505
if you've got a midi converter coming out the back of ya soundcard ($30 in shop) you should be able to jack into that. Havn't seen an MC505 so not completly sure.

Re: Roland GrooveBox MC-505
It's completely midi compatible and I have used it with Cubase.. It's a very hands on machine and using it with a PC is good for sequencing entire tracks. I use mine in a 'band' of sorts with two other guys and use it for strange effects, leads, beats, basses and rhythym not all the same time but they are very versitile. Be aware that when you use it on it's own, if you fill up all 7 patches plus the drums you will probably be losing poliphony which basically means you are not hearing the true sound because it is overloaded. This isn't always bad but I just thought you should know..
Anyway, mess around with it.. I use mine with a hardware sampler too, an SP202 and you can trigger it from the 505 and use the arpeggiator. Enjoy.. S. |

Re: Roland GrooveBox MC-505
Hi there,
I got myself a 505 a couple of years back and you're right they are kinda tricky but they can produce some really nice stuff. Take a listen to this track of mine, "Winter" it was made entirely on a 505. http://www.mp3.com.au/Imperia/ Have fun with it! |

Re: Roland GrooveBox MC-505
Hi there,
Gotta admit...I love the MC 505 too... I use it as a beat generator and sequencer along with a sampler, keyboard and live bass to make crazed Klute /Squarepusher style drum and bass. I've never had a problem midi-synching my MC505 to my PC's timeclock or other outboard gear...the first time you try it, it's best to have a good read through the section of the manual that deals with midi in, out and thru and get to grips with the way everything daisy-chains up before you start messing with cables ...got myself in an extensive state of confusion first time I did it, but it's easy...good luck-evilchris www.livingroomcanberra.com |

Re: Roland GrooveBox MC-505
Yeah...i've been havin a great time with it...patience and time i think are the key words. I just have to shut out the world every now and then and concentrate...which is not a bad thing (shutting out the world for a few hours)
I've been slowly working through ther manual but havn't really got that far. It's something i wanna learn myself as well though. My freind is quite coimpetent with one but he doesn't really want to show me too much which i think is fair enough cause i'd rather learn myself. Thanks for a bit of info...good to hear at least a few people have one out there. |
