I said what what, plastic cup?

Source http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...72-952,00.html

MORE than 70 "high risk" licensed venues across Brisbane, including the Qantas Club, will be the first targeted in the State Government's ban on glass.

The roll-out of plastic or shatter-proof glassware comes as Queensland copes with a surge of glassings as hundreds of victims are treated at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital each year.

Liquor Licensing is yet to determine whether the ban on glass will apply permanently, or after a certain time. But it's understood different licensees will have different conditions and that the ban will include stubbies and alcopops.

The first ``high risk'' venues to be targeted:

Club India, Brisbane
Transcontinental Hotel, Brisbane
The Federal Hotel, Ipswich
Zuri Lounge, Fortitude Valley
Uber, West End
Pine Rivers United Sports Club, Strathpine
The Hi-Fi Brisbane, West End
International Players Cabaret and Sportsbar, Ipswich
Victory Hotel, Brisbane
Empire Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Bunk, Fortitude Valley
The Family Nightclub, Fortitude Valley
Hotel Wickham, Fortitude Valley
Caxton Hotel, Petrie Tce
St Pauls on Leichhardt, Brisbane
Fridays, Brisbane
Pig N Whistle, Eagle St, Brisbane
Port Office Hotel, Brisbane
Chalk Hotel, Woolloongabba
The Velvet Cigar, Petrie Tce
The Fox Hotel, South Brisbane
Players Universal Lounge, Brisbane
The Lasseters Valley Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Union Jacks Ale House, Brisbane
Jade Buddha, Brisbane
Sportsman Hotel, Spring Hill,
The Met, Fortitude Valley
Jimmy's On The Mall, Brisbane
Tony's Niteclub, Fortitude Valley
Planet Nightclub, Fortitude Valley
Rockafellas Bar, Fortitude Valley
The GPO Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Bank Vault Lounge, Fortitude Valley
Bad Girls, Fortitude Valley
Down Under Bar & Grill, Brisbane
Club Minx, Brisbane
Just Hooters, Brisbane
Embassy Hotel, Brisbane
Royal George Hotel, Fortitude Valley
Little Jumbo, Brisbane
Brazilian Touch, Fortitude Valley
Mustang Bar, Fortitude Valley
The Elephant and Wheelbarrow, Fortitude Valley
Bohemia, Petrie Tce
The Monastery, Fortitude Valley
Scores Night Club, Fortitude Valley
The Cabaret Nightclub, Fortitude Valley
Qantas Club, Qantas Club Lounge, Qantas Chairman Lounge, Brisbane Airport
Hotel LA, Petrie Tce
Rics Cafe, Fortitude Valley
Exchange Hotel, Brisbane
The Beat Cabaret and Restaurant, Fortitude Valley
Showgirls CC, Brisbane
The Fringe Bar, Fortitude Valley
Step Inn, Fortitude Valley
Rosies on Edward, Brisbane
Club 299, Fortitude Valley
Mystique, Fortitude Valley
Kaliber Boutique Lounge Dining, Fortitude Valley
Love and Rockets, Petrie Tce
Imagination Cafe, Bar & Cafe, Petrie Tce
Love and Rockets, Fortitude Valley
The Calypso, Expresso Bar & Cafe
Casablanca Brasserie & Cafe
Arena, Fortitude Valley
Bar Soma Restaurant, Fortitude Valley
Siam Samrarn Thai Restaurant, West End
Not Quite 299, Fortitude Valley
X & Y Bar, Fortitude Valley
Normanby Hotel, Red Hill
Royal Exchange Hotel, Toowong
Alexandra Hills Hotel, Alexandra Hills

I guess it's too early to predict what conditions will be applied to venues, but seriously, this is absurd. What's next? Will it be illegal for distilleries and breweries to bottle their products in glass?

What about the niche market, cocktail bars like Barsoma, Bowery (actually it closes before 3 so seems to be excluded) etc etc. I can't really see myself enjoying a nice cocktail from a plastic cup.

Or the alternative... 'shatter proof glass'? So now these licensees have to fork out for a whole new set of presumably expensive glassware?

Perhaps Brabs or someone with a bit more knowledge than a News Ltd journalist can shed some more light on the subject, but my blood is definitely boiling. I can handle the 3am lockout, but I can't handle warm beer.

Great cause we really need to be wrapped in more cotton wool.

How about harsher penalties for douche bags that glass people. Isn't that aggravated assault? WFT happened to personal responsibility?

What about the Environmental impact of the tens of thousands of people drinking every weekend now using plastic cups? I wonder what the figures would be for how much waste is this is creating?

its sickening isnt it? i wonder if you will be allowed to re-use your cup if you so desire. did you know that on us airlines its illegal to reuse a cup for water for 'health reasons'?!

they use 4 million plastic cups a day! arhghaghag i hate this shit.

I'm actually okay with this. I'm fairly sure the poor people who have been unfortunate enough to cop a glass to the face wont give a shit if your beer gets warm faster.

I know it sucks because the minority are ruining it for the majority but I'm much happier to drink my beer from a plastic cup than go home one night without the ability to use my right eye ever again.

Glassings in the Qantas Club? I can imagine a heated debate about improperly folded napkins, but glassings? A more realistic concept is some pretty annoyed Q-club members having to drink out of plastic cups.

There also no mention of the Glen Hotel, Dooley's Meadowbrook, Rum Jungle @ Bracken Ridge or the Calamvale.

This sorta rubbish makes me so bloody angry.. Leave the rest of us alone, and if there is some person who feels the need to Glass someone else, PUT THEM IN JAIL... That way we can all keep enjoying our clubs the way we always have.

I love the fact one of the people interviewed in the Article with 40 years experience in the industry actually blamed the 3am locket for all this nonsense.

Just switch to bottled beer instead of tap. Not going to be as good as a fresh poured, obviously, but surely its better than having your beer in a plastic cup.

I havent read the article in full, but i gathered it was more for glasses, rather than bottles, as per the case at most festivals etc already.

This is another example of the government being totally thoughtless.

The first we have heard of this was via an email from a friend just minutes before this thread appeared.

There has been no consultation or information from the government re. this.

We have never had a glassing in our venue nor a serious violent incident. To lump barsoma with these places in unfair, simply because we trade to 5am on a weekend.

This would be final nail in the coffin after a long line of nails hammered through us by this government. And all this after today having to pay in excess of $16000 in annual fees to even open our doors.

Vent your disgust to our local member Grace Grace grace.grace@queenslandlabor.org

although I am pro-plastic at pubs, you'd think places such as Barsoma would be exempt from this rule? I've never heard of a glassing at a cocktail lounge and the risk of it ever happening would be minuscule compared to that of a pub such as RGs

I've been watching America's Hardest Prisons and you can still make a very effective shiv out of a plastic cup. Sure it's not as 'ready made' but if you have the wrong intentions you are always going to find a way around something to do wrong.

I've been to plenty of venues where I've felt uneasy about certain patrons being trusted with glass cups/ bottles. And while it will detract from the drinking experience (beer tastes like shit out of plastic cups), it only takes one fuckwit to smash a stubby across your face to potentially ruin your life.

^ Or a fist. Are they going to ban fists? Or maybe we should all be forced to wear oven mitts inside nightclubs.

Crash helmets maybe?

Kneepads to stop skinned knees?

yeah but its absurd, sure you can lose an eye, have some scars etc etc. but its much more dangerous getting in a car.

fact is, you can get hurt anywhere, anytime and by anything. shit i could spontaneously combust from the inner rage i'm feeling, perhaps we should ban stupid laws that make people rage.

maybe because i dont go to places where there are jock/footballer fukwits. even the valley mall pretty much all the time.
pretty simple to avoid.

We may have to repeal some of the drug laws for that
