Canberrans come together for HIV/AIDS awareness
Local Canberra artists, businesses and students will come together in September to promote awareness of local, national and international HIV/AIDS issues. Canberra’s first Red Party charity event will take place at ANU Bar on Saturday 5 September 2009.

The idea is simple – a massive party for a good cause with first class entertainment and a red theme. Run by EnSign, the Global Health subcommittee of the ANU Medical School Students Society, Red Party will feature two stages of Canberra’s best bands and DJs.

As well as raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, Red Party will raise funds for vital medical equipment for the Philippines General Hospital HIV clinical laboratory. This will not only assist in treating underprivileged people already affected by HIV/AIDS, but may also help to limit the spread of the HIV virus in the local Canberra community.

EnSign has partnered with the Philippines General Hospital, who will hold their own Red Party in September to raise funds for the cause. Several Canberra organisations and businesses, including those of the local medical community, have also lent their support by donating prizes for the night and funds to the hospital.

Two types of pre-sale tickets are available – Red Tickets ($25) are the more charitable, more fun ticket, allowing admission to the Red Party, a Red Party Slapband, entry into competitions on the night, a drink voucher and most importantly a few extra dollars to the cause. White Tickets are only $15 and provide general admission to this awesome party. Tickets are on sale at ANU Bar or www.anuredparty.com (paypal surcharge applies to tickets bought online). Tickets will be more on the door. This is great value for 20 acts and all profits go to charity.

On the night get free Red Bull from the Red Bull Wings Team. $5 Vodka Red Bull and student drink prices for everyone all night.

Get pre-sale tickets Monday only at UC. Tickets from other outlets until sold out - Zambreros, online (www.anuredparty.com) and ANU bar.

On the night there will be the best light and sound show in Canberra this year! - Heard of laser graffiti? Main-stage, 4m x 3m rear-projection screen, and laser guns... you point them at the screen from anywhere on the dance floor and it acts like a virtual spray-can - write your name, draw some mess. It'll be rad.

Camera helmets. You can wear a wireless camera with a live feed onto the main-stage screen and everyone can see what you see with effects!

On top of all that, it's for a great cause - all profits go to saving lives from HIV in the Philippines. This will be the first publicly available machine in a city of 20 million that gives the people vital access to drugs to help treat HIV/AIDS.

Red week activities leading up to the party on Saturday:

Tuesday - Tunes by uniVibes in union court 11-2
Wednesday - Awareness Stall 10-2:30. Film night at 5pm

unfortunately yes. OH&S issues. the powers that be decided that if i played any more than 10min it would be simply too much awesomeness in one set and the tent would catch on fire. im in negotiations with them now to play an hour set, and have assured them i will do my best to keep said awesome factor to a minimum.
