Port Nepean festival (replacing the Hot BBQ)

http://www.futureentertainment.com.a...nt-nepean-2010

Point Nepean Portsea - 16th January 2010, more details soon! On Saturday 16th January 2010 the Point Nepean Quarantine Station at Portsea will play host to the site’s second Music Festival, produced by Future Entertainment.

Parks Victoria have given in principle approval pending agreement of key planning requirements. Parks Victoria’s Manager of Point Nepean, Stuart Hughes, said “Our support for this event is just one of the steps we are taking to achieve our goal of opening the Quarantine Station for regular community access. By summer people will be able to walk, cycle or hop off the transporter and spend some time in this unique place.”

“The music festival will be predominantly stationed and contained to Jarman Oval and on the day of the festival there will still be access for park visitors” said Mr Hughes.

The festival will offer non-stop entertainment, embodying a commitment to arts culture and top of the line production standards to create a new breed of open-air event at one of Australia’s most iconic and picturesque venues, the Point Nepean Quarantine Station.

The festival will be presented over three stages, featuring a highly diversified blend of international and local live performers, grounded firmly in the glowing heart of the left field, alternative and eclectic. It presents rarefied a mix of organic and futuristic live music to create a hot and bubbling melting pot of indie, funk, hip hop, rock n roll, electro, funk, soul and more.

The festival, a reincarnation of ‘The Hot Barbeque Music & Arts Festival’, previously staged at Birrarung Marr on New Year’s Day has already presented performers such as Australia’s own ARIA Award winner, Gotye, De La Soul, The Divinyls, Uffie & Feadz of Ed Banger Records, DJ Mehdi, Amp Fiddler The Bumblebeez, Stanton Warriors, Van She and many more.

2010 will see Future Entertainment present some of the world’s biggest live performers in the festival’s history and exclusively at Point Nepean.

In addition to 3 stages, the bayside festival will present not only scenic views, but a unique food market showcasing the Mornington Peninsula’s local produce and a range of other entertaining activities.

Future Entertainment Director, Jason Ayoubi stated “We are honoured, and honestly excited to launch a music festival at such an iconic, picturesque destination of such significant heritage status. One must truly visit Point Nepean to appreciate it. Our sole focus is to bring the site to life in a sympathetic manner, one which celebrates its key physical features through our production experience.”

Event Manager, Jono Haycock, heavily involved with the organisation of the POINT NEPEAN ‘A Music Experience’ Festival in 2007 and 2008 said “The site does present its challenges in terms of access. Experience learnt from the previous events will assist us in having the measures in place to vacate Point Nepean and its surrounding communal areas in a quick and effective manner. We are working closely with Parks Victoria, Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, Victoria Police, local transport providers and other key stakeholders and are confident the festival will have little impact on the local community and compliment the Mornington Peninsula’s summer festivities.”

A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase in the coming weeks.

Point Nepean Quarantine Station is located at the end of Point Nepean Road, Portsea.

Interesting idea - I guess they still wanted to do a hot BBq style event but didnt want to risk competing with all the new years festivals. Would have thought they would do it a little closer to new years though.

Would prefer they did it even further AWAY from NYD to be honest!

Sounds interesting thought, roll on the lineup!

Fcuk yeh for beach house in Sorrento!!! Can walk home.

Hot BBQ (the first one) was awesome! If the lineup is along the lines of previous Hot BBQ offerings this will possibly be the festival of the summer!

In my experience, the first/second events are usually the best, with them going downhill following.

Would be keen to check something like this out.

Get a holiday house in the area for the weekend/week with some mates and have a serious crack at it.

Will sadly miss it next year, maybe take 2 if its any good.

Point Nepean is an amazing festival site, heaps of room, literally on the bay; I don't think you can compare the two.

This looks very promising. I have been down that way a few times and it is fairly isolated, so noise control won't be a problem. Would be very picturesque come sunset.

Pretty crucial to have somewhere to stay closeby though. Hopefully camping is possible on site.

yeah, it's totally in the middle of nowhere, and it's not like sumafielddayze on the gold coast where 90% of people are staying in the one spot so they just run busses back to the centre of surfers. the closest civilised public transport to there is the train at frankston, but that's nearly an hour away.

there's either got to be alot of strong willed designated drivers or alot of accomodation down there spare for a weekend during peak season

I'm really interested to see how they're going to tackle this one...

What are all them thar buildings then??? If that's places people can hire and stay then sweet, otherwise, it don't look very "isolated" at all...looks like an empty field right beside a whole stack of houses

Accomodation for January in the surrounding Sorrento/Portsea will be booked solid by the time the lineup is announced.

Which means there would have to be a fuck load of taxis/buses/hovercraft waiting to get rid of everyone.

Or....Future can book out the campsite next door

It would be silly not to! Add $20 to the event ticket price for a return ticket.

It would be fairly quick to get there and back & techno on a boat/ferry is too good to pass up on!

I'll put my hand up to play a munty tech set for the boat trip home

Went to the Point Nepean Festival last year, nice venue for a festival. The big open field in the images above was used for the car park. The stages were actually in the little green bits above it next to the sea. The houses are the old barracks.

Here is an image of the main stage from the sea at Point Nepean Fest

Tis the reason I won't be going to this good line up or not, too much energy needed to save up to go nuts are RSF, will be there by Thursday lunch to set up our village
